I like big bags and I cannot lie, but recently I decided to switch to a small purse because my body was aching from the heaviness of my bolsa. Also, most of the time I don't need all the things I lug around. I'm not saying I'm completely giving up on large purses, but I'm giving them a rest. Here are some reasons you might want to stop carrying a heavy purse, too.

Shoulder pain

Straps from heavy bags can do quite the number on your shoulders. They press down and cause pain that doesn't always go away once you remove the purse. Consider bags with wider straps to help disperse the weight more evenly.

They get in the way

You know this is true. When you go to a restaurant, there is nowhere to put your big bag. It's like your bag needs a seat of its own and its not just at restaurants where your ginormous bag gets in the way, it's anywhere that space is tight.

Neck pain

Carrying weight in the same position repeatedly can cause neck pain. Try switching the side you carry your purse on regularly.

Your kids will take advantage of you

All mothers with big purses get taken advantage of by their children. Your kids think that since you have a big purse they can ask you to carry their toys, dolls or anything in your bag. The arguments can be avoided with a bag that doesn't have room for all of their stuff.

Back pain

The reason carrying a heavy bag can give you back pain is because the muscles in your back have to work to carry all that extra weight. If you must carry a big purse, try not to overload your bag with too many things to make it as light as possible.

Headaches

Did you know that the weight from your purse on the back of your shoulders and neck can cause headaches? It makes sense if you think about it, but few people seem to know about this correlation.

You can't find anything

You love the convenience of being able to put everything into a large bag, but then when you are trying to find something in there you can't because there is so much stuff in there. What's the point?

Posture issues

A heavy purse can mess with your posture and not just when you are wearing it. Let's say you only carry your bag on one side, that side is going to develop muscles in a way that the other side of your body won't, thus throwing off your posture even when you have no bag on you. Remember to switch up the side that you carry your purse on regulary to avoid this problem. Also, consider using a cross-body bag.

Nerve trauma

If you feel numbness or tingling in your arms it could be from "from nerve microtrauma" caused from holding your purse. Don't do this to your body. It's not worth it. Lighten up your purse by taking anything out of it that you won't be needing that day.

Germ collectors

You know how your mami told you never to put your purse on the ground because then you'll never have money? Well, guess what you will have? GERMS! Your bag is collecting germs from all the surfaces it touches and then you are lugging those germs back into your home. If you have a smaller bag, it's easier to hang it on the back of a chair or keep it on so that you aren't a germ collector.
