7 Foods you should eat if you are trying to get pregnant

Trying to get pregnant? Why not eat foods that boost your fertility then? Sounds like a good idea, no? And no I'm not talking about foods that are supposedly aphrodisiacs to get you in the baby-makin' mood, although you are totally welcome to eat those too. I'm talking about foods that up your chances of getting pregnant. How so? By giving you nutrients that set up your reproductive system for success.

These  foods are out there and readily available and it's quite possible that you are already eating some of them.

Here are seven foods you should be eating if you are trying to get pregnant and why:

Pepitas

Why? Pumpkin seeds have plant-based iron in them, which is supposed to be helpful when trying to get pregnant.

Whole grains

Why? Whole grains are full of good stuff for you. They have anti-oxidants, B-vitamins and iron, all of which come in handy when trying to conceive.

Olive oil

Why? Olive oil is one of those fats that is considered good for you. It helps reduce inflammation and inflammation can be problematic when trying to get pregnant.

Shrimp

Why? You want to avoid fish that is high in mercury because mercury is no bueno for you, but 12 ounces of low-mercury fish like salmon or shrimp will hook you up with omega-3s, which are thought to be good to for regulating your reproductive hormones and getting more blood to your reproductive organs.

Leafy greens

Why? Leafy greens high in folate are linked to improved ovulation.

Frijoles

Why? Beans have plant protein in them. Plant-based protein is believed to be better for fertility than animal based protein. Too much animal protein may actual decrease your fertility.

Whole milk

Why? One to two servings of whole milk helps fend off ovulatory infertility. But, cuidado because remember that whole milk is higher in calories than skim or lowfat milk.
