I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) when I was a teenager, which roughly translated means I had a lot of digestive and stomach problems. I had to change up the way I ate to relieve it which taught me a trick or two about dealing with digestive issues.

You're better off reaching for the Pepto, antacid or gas medication as a last resort because you don't want to grow too dependent on them. Instead, you can opt for natural remedies to relieve any digestive problems you may be having if you ate something that didn't agree with you or your stomach is simply acting up.

I definitely know that once they are gone, I feel like a new person! Check out these easy and safe remedies below:

Peppermint: If you are suffering from gas problems, have a cup of peppermint tea. The herb helps release any gas discomfort you may have to soothe your stomach. Fennel, chamomile and anise are other good options as well.

Ginger: This may be strong but a little bit goes a long way.It is the perfect digestive aid to have alongside your meals. Have it as a tea or add it to a glass of water.

Chia seeds: If you find yourself constipated, you know that it's the most uncomfortable feeling ever. Chia seeds are my version of a "natural" and "gentle" stool softener that you are going to love. Add a teaspoon to your meals or a glass of water until it appears gel-like and drink up!

Drink water: Sometimes we don't realize it but we are not drinking enough water. The best thing you can do is your start your day off with a glass of water and make sure to remain hydrated.

Exercise: You don't have to do any rigorous exercises, but by going for a walk or doing another low impact workout, you can help ease digestive problems.
