Jennifer Lopez reveals the reason for her and Ben Affleck’s divorce

After months of reports that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were heading for divorce, J.Lo officially filed the paperwork. Neither Ben nor Jen have publicly spoken about their split. However, the "Let's Get Loud" singer recently offered insight into the reason for their marriage ending.

Bennifer was first an item in 2002 after they met on the set of their film Gigli. He proposed that same year, but they called off their wedding and split in early 2004. In 2021, Ben and Jen rekindled their romance; they legally married in July 2022. Fast-forward to May 2024, and divorce rumors were rampant. J.Lo filed for divorce on August 20—and now fans know why.

So why did Ben and Jen call it quits after only two years of marriage? The "Jenny From the Block" singer offered a clue in her divorce filing. Per Page Six she listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split.

Their date of separation aligns with reports of Bennifer's marital woes.

Jennifer may have filed divorce paperwork on August 20, but things were over between her and Ben long before then. Her filing listed April 26, 2024, as their date of separation. Considering breakup rumors began in May, the timeline makes sense.

Additionally, Jen requested to change her last name back to Lopez.

As USA Today reported, J.Lo requested a name change in the divorce filing. She legally changed her last name to Affleck after she and Ben tied the knot. However, she asked the judge to change her name back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.

Jennifer previously gushed about taking Ben's last name in an interview with 'Vogue.'

In November 2022, J.Lo dished on why she legally took Ben's last name.

“People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together,” she told Vogue. “We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem.”

J.Lo also addressed spousal support in the divorce paperwork.

Jen waived spousal support in her divorce filing. She asked the judge to also deny Ben spousal support. And because they have no children together, child support isn't even part of the equation.

Ben and Jen have been over since April, and yet she waited until August 20 to file divorce paperwork. Interestingly, it was the two-year anniversary of her and Ben's second wedding in Georgia. “The timing of the divorce was a big f— you to Ben,” a source with inside knowledge told Us Weekly.
