After months of speculation, Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Fans certainly saw it coming. But that doesn't mean the sting of Bennifer's breakup hurts any less—especially because Ben reportedly had "no interest" in saving his failing marriage.

After meeting on the set of their film Gigli, Jen and Ben started dating and got engaged in 2002. They called off the wedding in early 2024 and went their separate ways, eventually starting families with other people. In 2021, J.Lo and Ben rekindled their relationship. They eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a second more extravagant ceremony the following month in Georgia.
Things seemed to be going fine with their marriage until breakup rumors started swirling in May 2024. And evidently, Ben didn't do much to fight to save their union toward the end.
Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce on August 20.
On August 20, Jennifer filed divorce documents at Los Angeles Superior Court. She filed alone and without an attorney, Page Six reported. The date of separation was listed as April 26, 2024.
Interestingly, the filing came on a major anniversary.
Fans couldn't help but notice the timing of J.Lo's divorce filing. She chose to make the move exactly two years after she and Ben held their second wedding ceremony. Was it on purpose?
Ben Affleck reportedly didn't show 'any interest' in working to fix their marriage.
An inside source told People that Jennifer decided to file for divorce because she realized "it's time to move on."
They explained: "She's very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn't given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage. He hasn't shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work. It's gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself."
Reportedly, Jennifer was 'furious' and 'humiliated' about the demise of their relationship.
Earlier in August, a source offered insight into Jennifer's state of mind amid ongoing breakup reports. “She’s furious,” they told Page Six. “He has humiliated her. He was the one who initiated getting back together.”
Ben and Jen didn't have a prenup.
In the divorce paperwork J.Lo filed, she did not mention a prenuptial agreement. Jennifer waived spousal support in the documents, asking the judge to do the same with Ben. Sources with knowledge of the situation told TMZ that Jen and Ben did not have a prenup in place.
The timing of J.Lo's divorce filing was a slap in the face for Ben.
Although Ben and Jen have been over since April, per the divorce filing, the "Let's Get Loud" singer deciding to wait until one of their wedding anniversaries sent a strong message. “The timing of the divorce was a big f— you to Ben,” an insider told Us Weekly on August 21.
As of writing, there has been no public comment from Ben or Jen on the divorce.
