Kim Kardashian discussed her psoriasis journey on the 'She MD Podcast.'
During a recent episode of the She MD Podcast, Kim discussed her experience with psoriasis at length. The reality star admitted that before her diagnosis at 30, she "didn’t know anything about it."
She explained, reports Page Six, "But having to learn about it and figuring out where it came from and that it’s hereditary and just learning more and being able to share that [has been a blessing].”
During the episode, Kim revealed one of her sons has vitiligo.
"It came from my mom, went to me," Kim said during the podcast, of her psoriasis, when discussing the hereditary component of autoimmune disorders. "I've passed on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo very mildly."
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder characterized by patchy areas of skin that have lost pigment.
She didn't specify which of her sons has vitiligo.
The Skims founder later noted that her son's vitiligo is "under control." However, the mom of four did not specify whether Saint or Psalm has the autoimmune skin condition. Fans will have to wait and see whether Kim decides to divulge more.
A handful of other celebrities have been diagnosed with vitiligo.
Between 1.9 and 2.8 million people in the US have vitiligo, according to one recent study published by the Journal of American Medical Association. Most famously, the late Michael Jackson had vitiligo. Canadian model Winnie Harlow also has the autoimmune condition, in addition to Joe Rogan, NFL coach (and former player) Karl Dunbar, and actor John Hamm.
Additionally, Kim noted that her kids have 'a little bit of eczema.'
While discussing psoriasis on the podcast, Kim also shared that her children "have a little bit of eczema.” Eczema is a fairly common condition that causes dry and itchy patches of skin. According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, it affects roughly 30% of the US population.
Her psoriasis nearly caused an issue with her 2022 Met Gala look.
In 2022, when Kim wore Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress to the Met Gala, her look was nearly derailed by a psoriasis flare.
“I remember I had the Met Ball coming up that week and it was covering my face," she said on the She MD Podcast. Thankfully, makeup applied by makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic made the flareup undetectable.
“We did put on concealer," she later added. "And I remember him vividly saying, 'It's so crazy that your makeup is holding really well on it.' So he wasn't concerned."
