In this day and age, the majority of social media photos are edited in some way—and celebrities frequently get called out for editing fails. Touchups can be something as simple as a filter or getting rid of a zit. They can also include more nefarious alterations, such as trimming of inches off a woman's waist or thighs, or completely changing the shape of someone's face.

Recently, Sofía Vergara found herself at the center of a debate about a major photo-editing mistake. And folks on social media weren't afraid to call out the Colombian American actress. Let's take a closer look at why fans were so focused on the America's Got Talent audience members behind Sofía in a recent pair of selfies.
The photo in question is from the set of 'AGT.'
On March 16, Sofía took to Instagram to share two photos of herself from the set of AGT. The judge struck a pose with her hand resting under her chin in the selfies, with audience members visible in the background. "I love u @agt❤️❤️season19," she captioned the update.
Things seemed normal at first.
At a glance, Sofía's Instagram post seems pretty standard. Her grid is filled with behind-the-scenes looks at the NBC competition series. However, fans who lingered for a few seconds immediately recognized the photo was heavily edited—all they had to do was look at the AGT audience members in the background of Sofía's snaps.
But, look closer at the audience members in the background of her photos.
In the first photo alone, multiple AGT audience members look warped. The woman in the front row on the left is definitely "off." And the faces of the people further back are sketchy, too. Meanwhile, the woman on Sofía's right in the middle looks like a straight-up zombie.
The second photo was just as bad.
Unfortunately, the distorted AGT fans weren't just a one-off editing gaffe. The second photo in Sofía's Instagram carousel included audience members looking similarly undead. Clearly, the two women to the left of the actress want to eat some brains.
Fans on Instagram couldn't help but point out the zombie apocalypse happening right behind Sofía.
In the comments, Instagram users couldn't help but point out the editing fail.
One person wondered, "Why does everyone look so dang scary."
A translation of one Spanish-speaking commenter reads: "Is the public created by AI?? Are they zombies?? ."
Another commenter (translated from Spanish) wrote: "With those people in the back it looks like they're filming a scene from The Walking Dead."
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user declared, "When you use a filter and forget about the audience ."
Folks on X joked about the Photoshop fail, too.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), folks caught wind of Sofía's editing fail and weighed in on the zombie audience.
"Sofía Vergara published these photographs on Instagram but please tell me that you also see the same thing as me ," one person tweeted.
Another X user joked, "If global warming does not exist, how do you explain that the people behind Sofía Vergara are melting?"
Yet another person on X saw it differently, writing: "Did you see the movie The Ring, when you see the video of Samara and then you are deformed? Well, zoom in on the photos that Sofia Vergara uploaded."
