Thanks to her Modern Family costar, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, introducing them. By December, Joe proposed, and the couple said “I do” in November 2015. On Sunday, January 14, Sofía opened up about the media circus surrounding her divorce from Joe. “You’re out there, and people know that's part of being a celebrity,” she said during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning. “I knew it was gonna happen. You can’t hide those things.”
Media coverage of her divorce was actually more respectful than she anticipated.
During her CBS Sunday Morning interview, Sofía acknowledged the media coverage could have been way worse. “I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice. And I thought that they were gonna invent more things, and you know how it usually is,” she said. “I was surprised and, you know, they, they kind of just said what it was and, and that was it.”
Sofía and Joe announced their divorce in a joint statement in July 2023.

On the heels of the breakup announcement, Joe officially filed for divorce two days later. He cited “irreconcilable difference” as the reason for the end of their marriage, according to documents obtained by Today. The date of separation was listed as July 2.
