Inside the $25.5 million mansion bought by the Latino winner of largest Powerball jackpot

Have you ever wondered what you would buy if you won the lottery? I know I have and a home always makes the top of my lottery winning purchases wish list. I know I’m not alone because Edwin Castro won the largest Powerball jackpot to date in the US—$2.04 billion—and he used some of that money to buy a breathtaking mansion in the posh Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel Air. I don’t think anyone who has ever imagined winning the lottery could even imagine a home as futuristically stunning as the one Edwin now owns.

More from MamásLatinas: Inside the most luxurious kitchens of Latino celebs

Edwin won the Powerball jackpot in November 2022 and he opted to collect a lump sum just a little shy of $1 billion instead of collecting the full prize over a 29-year span. He’s been pretty private since winning and didn’t even appear at the press conference announcing his win. He did release a brief statement saying: “I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing. As someone who received the rewards of being educated in the California public education system, it’s gratifying to hear that as a result of my win, the school system greatly benefits as well.”

Congratulations to Edwin Castro! Now take a look at his Bel Air mansion.

She has a name!

You know all expensive homes have names, right? Well, this one is no exception. Her name is Italian, and is Palazzo di Vista, which roughly translates to "the palace of views." And, oh my goodness, does she live up to her name, as you will see shortly.

And how old is this beauty?

She was built in 2021 by Dr. Alex Khadavi, a Los Angeles-based dermatologist and plastic surgeon, in collaboration with Ali Rad Design Group. Khadavi bought the property in 2013 and started construction in 2016.

Technically, Edwin is now the owner of a fancy compound.

Palazzo di Vista is a compound because it has a main house and a guest house. The compound boasts seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and so much more. Plus, it looks like it should belong to some kind of rich superhero, like Tony Stark.

What is this space?

Is this a bedroom or a lounge area? Who cares? It's incredible and the way it gives you a clear view of the outdoors is just spectacular. But OMG, this place must require some kind of upkeep.

Bartender not included.

There is a bar lounge that looks like it should have a live-in bartender so that you can request your favorite drinks any time of day or night. This is nicer than most hotel bars.

Just one of the 11 bathrooms on the property.

The bathtub is in the middle of the room. If that's not luxury, I don't know what is. And you get a killer view while bathing. Also, peep the chandelier over the bathtub. Nice!

Is this what closets in heaven look like?

This closet is probably bigger than most people's bedrooms. No more complaining about not having enough closet space. More like complaining about not having enough clothes to fill the closet.

Look at the floors!

Is that marble? Yes! “Instead of going for the $10-a-square-foot marble, I went for the $150- to $200-a-square-foot marble,” Khadavi told The Wall Street Journal.

There is a movie theater with tiered seating!

You could invite your extended family over to watch a movie and there would be plenty of seating. You also wouldn't have to worry about anybody blocking your view because the seats are tiered.

The main house has secrets.

There is a button you can push in the grand foyer and the floor opens up and a DJ platform on a hydraulic lift makes its way up. With the push of another button, smoke machines activate.

There is a glass bridge!

Overlooking the living room, there is a glass-bottomed bridge on the second floor. It's beautiful, but kind of creepy if you're wearing a skirt or dress. I don't think they thought that one through.

Let's talk about the views.

The views around the entire property are jaw-dropping. The property is perched on top of a promontory that offers exquisite panoramic views from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Channel Islands.

There are no bad views.

No matter where you are on the property, the views are amazing. Not like some places that have a great view on one side and a brick wall on another side. Nope these views are fully panoramic.

The outdoor amenities are as impressive as the indoor ones.

There is plenty of outdoor space for entertaining. It almost looks like a high-end resort. For added privacy and appeal, there are 56 Moroccan date palm trees planted around the perimeter of the estate.

The pool is very special.

It's an infinity pool with a negative edge that makes you feel like you are floating above the stunning panoramic views. It also has built-in jets that are designed to pump water in time to whatever music you decide to play, so it's a whole sensory experience.

There is a car museum.

Not gonna lie, at first, I thought this was an incredibly fancy garage, but no. It's a car museum because if you have enough money to buy and keep this place, then you must have enough money to fill up your own car museum.

There's also a koi pond.

The property also has a feng shui koi pond and water wall. Adjacent to the koi pond, there is a glass elevator designed to look like it's going to dive into the koi pond on it's way to the basement.

The driveway is marble-ous.

The driveway has what looks like an elevated marble bridge that leads you to the oversized front door that elegantly opens into the main house with its incredible views.

It's definitely a sight to behold.

Look at it all lit up. It's almost like living in a glass house. I'd be afraid of being spied on, but it's not like there's any close by neighbors to peep into your window walls, which will require some kind of professional cleaning on the regular.

The maintenance, though.

The main house is stunning and the entire compound is amazing, but the upkeep is going to cost a pretty penny. According to Khadavi, whoever lives there will “need to probably have a couple of butlers and a couple of maids.”
