Rihanna & A$AP Rocky welcome baby No. 2—and fans have theories about their baby’s name

In February 2023, Rihanna performed at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show in a high-flying, 13-minute showcase of her iconic discography. The music superstar didn't have any special guests join her onstage—aside from her visible baby bump, that is. Shortly after delighting viewers with her musical prowess, Rihanna confirmed she was expecting baby No. 2. Fast-forward to August, and RiRi and partner A$AP Rocky are officially parents of two!

The "Umbrella" singer and rapper have been dating since 2020, and they welcomed their first child on May 13, 2022. Although they didn't announce their firstborn's name until nearly a year after he was born, fans finally learned their baby boy's moniker is RZA. On August 21, 2023, news broke that Rihanna had given birth to her and A$AP Rocky's second child. Let's take a closer look at what we know!

On August 21, TMZ was the first to report that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky had quietly welcomed their second child. The details were sparse, but sources told the outlet that Rihanna delivered their baby earlier in the month. The source said the child was born on August 3 in Los Angeles.

As of writing, the name of their second child has not been confirmed. Sources told TMZ it's a boy and his name begins with the letter "R." Other than that tiny clue, fans will have to wait until either his parents reveal the moniker, or a birth certificate does.

Their eldest son was named after a member of the Wu-Tang Clan.

In May 2023, a copy of Rihanna's firstborn's birth certificate (obtained by the Daily Mail) showed his full name is RZA Athelston Mayers. (A$AP Rocky's legal name is Rakim Athelston Mayers.) The name pays tribute to rapper and producer RZA, the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Fans have some theories about Rihanna's second baby's name.

Based on the report that baby No. 2 was given a name that begins with "R," folks already have predictions about what it might be. Raekwon is a possibility, given that he is also a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Another solid guess is Rakim, after A$AP Rocky's legal name. Of course, any "R" name could really be the name (if the reports are correct).

It might be a while until fans see photos of their new baby.

After RZA was born, the new parents didn't post much for a while. (And can you blame them? Newborns take so much time and energy!) It wasn't until their son was 7 months old that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky started sharing photos and videos of him via social media. So it seems logical that they may bask in the joy of their new baby for a bit before sharing him with the world.

Motherhood has empowered Rihanna.

In February 2023, RiRi opened up about the whirlwind of becoming a mother.

"Having a kid honestly unlocks another side of life where you're now in the matrix with the people who've already had kids," she told British Vogue. "You come to have a different respect for moms and dads … Oh my God, it's legendary. It's everything. You really don't remember life before, that's the craziest thing ever."

The fierce mama also spoke on how parenthood has empowered her to tackle new challenges.

"It's this knowing that you can do anything," Rihanna told the publication. "Even things that seem the craziest."
