Some celebrities go to great lengths to prove their love for their significant others. While they can spoil each other with extravagant gifts and luxury vacations, some of them have taken things to the next level and made their declaration of love permanent with tattoos. Plenty of famous couples have gone as far as getting identical matching ink. Others like Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck get different designs that are still an ode to their shared love.

We get it: Nothing says "I love you" like covering your body with a symbol that is meant to last a lifetime. Travis Barker added what appears to be wifey Kourtney Kardashian's eyes to his upper thigh. Cardi B made sure the world knew just how much she loves her husband by tattooing his name in a large font right on the back of her leg. Even Eva Mendes has a tattoo that lets you know who she's married to. Romantic, right? The thing is, not all relationships are meant to last forever. Some couples have gone their separate ways after getting tattoos and have had to go through the painful removal process.
Kylie Jenner had everyone talking about the tattoo she debuted back in 2016, mainly because it looked like it was dedicated to her then-boyfriend, Tyga. The tat, which is on the inside of her ankle, used to be a teeny-tiny lowercase "t." She has since changed it to something else. And let's be real, she's far from the first celeb to get a tattoo in the name of love and then regret the gesture. Others have gotten full portraits of their lover's face just to end up having to cover it up. Here's a look at a few hopelessly romantic stars who got inked for their significant others.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have tattoos inspired by their epic love story.
The Hollywood superstars celebrated their first Valentine's Day as husband and wife on February 14, 2023, and they decided to commemorate their love by getting tattoos. The Bronx Diva got a tattoo on the left side of her torso of the infinity symbol with an arrow through it, bearing her name and Ben's name in cursive.
Ben opted for a different design.
His tattoo features two intersecting arrows and the initials J and B. When Jen shared a carousel of pictures spotlighting their new body art, she included really cute pictures of them together and captioned it: "Commitment. Happy Valentine's Day, my love."
Rauw Alejandro got Rosalía's name on his abdomen.
The singer's fans noticed during a concert held on April 24, 2022, in San Jose, California, that Rauw Alejandro had a rather noticeable tattoo on his abdomen just above the navel with the name of his girlfriend, Spanish vocalist Rosalía.
Rosalía got a much less conspicuous tattoo in honor of their love.
The "Motomami" singer tattooed the letters "RR" on the bottom of her left foot. And, as she revealed on the El Hormiguero program, she did it in honor of her partner Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro. She also shared that she told Rauw: “I'm going to tattoo your initial because it's also mine.”
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky’s matching tattoos feature the Runic alphabet.
They each have five letters in the Runic alphabet on their arms that translate to the letters C, E, I, T, and S in the English alphabet. The couple have been married since 2010, they were introduced to each other by Chris’ talent agent. They got married just three months after going public with their relationship.
What do the letters of their tattoos symbolize?
Well, the couple have three children named: India, Tristan, and Sasha. It would appear that they chose those symbols because they are the initials of everyone in their family. Each family member is represented by the first letter of their first name.
Canelo tattooed his beloved’s eyes on his arm.
At the time that the famous Mexican boxer had Fernanda Gomez’s eyes inked on his left arm in 2019, they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Fernanda proudly shared several images of the large tattoo Canelo got in her honor. They tied the knot in 2021.
Lupillo Rivera and Shirley Arroyo broke up shortly after getting matching tattoos.
In 2019, a month after getting matching tattoos featuring their names and an infinity sign, the couple decided to call it quits. Supposedly, the breakup was mutual and had to do with their busy schedules making it impossible to spend time together. Too bad their schedules didn’t get in the way before they got those tattoos.
Luis Fonsi got the same tattoo as his wife Águeda López.
They got the matching tattoos of the word “mar” because the ocean is something that they love to experience together. The musician and the model also live close to the ocean in Miami, which is fortunate because they love it so much.
Travis Barker has Kourtney's gaze on him.
We know that Kourtney is always gazing lovingly at her hubby whenever they are together, but now even when they are apart, her gaze is on him in the form of a tattoo. Or at least that's what it looks like. The Blink-182 drummer shared a couple of pictures on January 21, 2023, of a new tattoo he got on his upper thigh, and it appears to be Kourtney Kardashian's eyes and eyebrows.
Eva Mendes did a thing for Ryan Gosling.
She has a tattoo on her left wrist that reads, "de Gosling"—Gosling being for her partner, Ryan Gosling. The couple have been together for over a decade, but Eva showed her tattoo on social media on November 15, 2022. Did she hint that she may be married to Ryan? In Hispanic culture, when a woman gets married and takes her husband's last name, the preposition "de"—which means "of," as in belonging to—is added to unify her last name with her husband's. So, does her tattoo mean that she now is Eva Mendes de Gosling?
Cardi B wanted to really show her commitment to her man.
In September 2017, Cardi B and Offset got married. In July 2018, they had their first child together, Kulture. In 2019, Cardi decided to get a tattoo of Offset’s name on the back of her left thigh. It’s simple but not small—definitely a gesture saying that Cardi believes in their union.
Offset has Cardi’s name tattooed on him as well.
He actually got “Cardi B” inked on his neck in 2018. Not that it’s a competition or anything, but he got her name tattooed first, and she reciprocated the following year. Cardi’s name is right below a Buttercup Powerpuff Girl tattoo on Offset’s neck.
La La Anthony shared a story about a tattoo on Carmelo’s wrist.
Back in 2016, when La La and Carmelo Anthony were still married—she filed for divorce in 2021—La La shared a picture on Instagram that shows a tattoo on Carmelo’s wrist that reads “La” and wrote, “I almost forgot about that tattoo! he got that like 12 years ago on a 'dare' one night! #memories -it's says LA.” When asked why it was just one La, she explained that the other La was on his other wrist.
Maluma and his now ex-girlfriend, Natalia, thought they had an eternal kind of love.
The Colombian singer and the Cuban Croatian model dated from 2018 to 2019. During their romance, they decided to get matching infinity tattoos. Their romance did not last forever, but at least their tattoos aren’t each other’s names and work just as well as solo tattoos.
Kyle Jenner got a ‘t’ tattoo.
Kylie moved on to a relationship with Travis Scott, who is the father of her two children, so you might think the tiny “t” tattoo she got in 2016 on her left ankle was for him, but nope. She got the “t” for Tyga, her ex-boyfriend. Once she and Tyga broke up, she had the tattoo modified into “LA” for Los Angeles.
Christina Milian got a tattoo inspired by Lil Wayne.
Christina and Lil Wayne dated in 2015, and she must have really been into him because while they were together she got a tattoo that reads “Love hard…TnT.” If you’re wondering what the “TnT” part stands for, we’re thinking it stands for Tina and Tunechi. Tina being short for Christina, and Tunechi is Lil Wayne’s nickname.
Benji Madden loves him some Cameron Diaz.
The Good Charlotte guitarist and Cameron Diaz got married on January 5, 2015. About a month later, Benji decided to get a rather large tattoo of his new bride's name in cursive right around his collarbone.
Marc Anthony had to get two Jennifer Lopez tattoos modified.
He had the name “Jennifer” inked on his wrist, and he also had “JLM” on his ring finger. The JLM stood for Jennifer Lopez Muñiz. Since getting divorced from Jennifer, he had the “Jennifer” on his wrist turned into some kind of swirly design, and now that he’s married to model Nadia Ferreira, he turned the “JLM” initials on his ring finger into a black band.

Khloé Kardashian got inked one month after getting married to Lamar Odom.
The Kardashian sister got "L.O." tattooed on her right hand, while Lamar got "K.O." on his. Khloé filed for divorce in December 2013. She eventually got rid of that tat. Hopefully she didn't get any of Tristan Thompson, who repeatedly cheated on her.
Zoe Saldaña's hubby Marco Perego honored her in the best possible way.
The couple had a whirlwind romance, followed by a top-secret marriage ceremony, but he also showed his love in another way—with a large tattoo of a woman's face that looks an awful lot like that of his famous wife!
Amber Rose got Wiz Khalifa's face tattooed on her arm.
The couple announced their split in 2014 after he was allegedly caught cheating with twin models. Amber later had the tattoo covered up. With what? She covered it up with the face of another man with a beard and shades. Hmm, interesting choice.

The fashion icon got her then-husband Seal's name tattooed on her forearm and added a star after each anniversary. Heidi filed for divorce in April 2012. She later had the tattoo removed.

It was hard to miss the tattoo she had on her arm that read "Antonio" while she was married to actor Antonio Banderas. They called it quits after 18 years of marriage, which was sad to hear, but it looks like she wanted to get rid of her ink ASAP. She was spotted with the tattoo removed shortly after they called it quits.
Penélope Cruz's tattoo wasn't necessarily inspired by her ex.
The Spanish actress got "883" inked near her right ankle while she was dating Tom Cruise. Many suspected that the mystery numbers had something to do with Scientology, but apparently they are just her lucky numbers.
Kat Von D's tattoo was intense.
The tattoo artist got a portrait of her now ex, Jesse James, as a youth. When their relationship came to an end, Kat decided it was time to get rid of his portrait on her as well and documented the process perhaps as a cautionary tale.
Nick Cannon's tattoo of Mariah was massive.
When Nick and Mariah were still together, he got "MARIAH" tattooed across his upper back in very large letters. After their split, he had the tattoo covered up with an even larger tattoo featuring Jesus on the cross as well as wings and a dove.
Rihanna and Drake got matching tattoos.
The pair never confirmed they were dating in 2016, but they made things somewhat official with a pair of matching shark tattoos. It may have been sweet at the time, but that sweetness may have turned sour, because five years later, Rihanna had that tattoo covered up.
