I never realize how much clothes (and junk) I have until spring comes along. I normally like to use this time to do a little cleaning and re-organize my closet, but EVERY single year I find myself on the fence about what to store, throw out, donate or fix. What normally ends up happening is I get so overwhelmed by all the clutter I wind up starting but never finishing, leaving my wardrobe in the same hot mess I found it in.
Luckily for all the self-proclaimed disorganized chicas out there (like me), there are ways to make it through a spring closet cleaning alive. But before we get started, make sure you set aside a few hours and a whole lot patience because this is definitely going to take a while. Check out a few of my simple tips below to help make the process somewhat easier and a lot less painful.

Get rid of clothes you don't wear: I'll admit, it's not easy getting rid of your old things (especially if you're a hoarder like me), but think about it: if you can't actually visualize yourself wearing that piece again, chances are you never will. If you have clothing that's practically holding onto its last thread you should probably throw it out. Anything that's in relatively good condition that you don't seeing yourself using donate it or hand it down to a friend or relative. You'll appreciate the extra space in your closet.
Lose pre-baby clothes: Holding on to teeny-tiny clothes you used to wear pre-pregnancy is a guaranteed self-esteem killer. Just because you used to be a size four doesn't mean you have to slim back to that size to look great. Spare yourself the torture and get rid of those outfits asap!
Let go of maternity wear: Unless you're planning on getting pregnant sometime soon, your old pregnancy clothes are literally just going to take up space in your closet. Clear them out and make room for some new spring pieces.
Evaluate your closet space: If you don't have a huge walk-in closet, you have to figure out how to work with minimal space. Invest in storage organizers like a hanging shoe rack, adhesive hooks, storage cubes, shelves, and storage bins. This will ultimately keep your wardrobe neater because you wont have to cram everything you own in there.
Invest in good hangers: One big piece of advice: I highly recommend that you buy some good thin, lined hangers (like Huggable Hangers). These amazing closet organizers not only give you more space (because they're super thin) but the velvety material prevents your garments from slipping off and ending up on the closet floor. Believe me–they make all the difference!
Figure out your organization method: I personally like to organize my clothing closet by type of apparel, but you can also do it by color or by occasion (think work, casual and former clothes). The point is to figure out a system that you like and will be able to stick with.
Send clothes to the dry cleaners: From time to time, I come across a piece of clothing I absolutely love that needs a little fixing. Instead of tossing it out or donating, I simply send it to my cleaners for some refreshing. This is especially useful for those more expensive staple pieces like a trench coat or a classic LBD you can't see yourself without.
