I'm a HUGE dog lover so when I heard about what happened to 10-year-old Kyle Camp, not only was I glad that he was okay, but I was also a little envious that he got to spend a night accompanied by puppies! The little boy who has Down syndrome went missing from his Alabama homeearlier this week after he disappeared while watching TV.
The search for the boy went on for a whole night, and included more than 150 volunteers, firefighters–even a State Trooper helicopter. The following morning with the help of volunteer Jamie Swinney's family dog, the boy was found by a creek, but in good hands–apparently he was kept company all night by the dog's puppies. Aw!
This sounds like something out of one of those Homeward Bound movies–and I'm so happy that it has such a happy ending. I can understand his parents' cause for alarm with his disappearance because you hear of such awful news stories about kids who go missing.
Kyle was in decent shape when police found him with the exception of some scrapes and bruises, so he was treated at a nearby hospital. Officials say that they found the child wet and barefoot, but that it appeared as though the puppies kept him warm overnight. I have to say it again: Aww! It's so sweet to hear that these puppies' innate instincts were to protect the boy while he was lost.

I'm even more amazed at the number of people willing to help out this family find their son. Swinney said he only had one goal in mind and that was to get him to safety. "The main thing was getting him to his dad. That's where I wanted to get him to was to his dad. When I found him I asked if he was alright and he said yeah, he said he just wanted to go home," explained the volunteer.
One of the searchers, Joshua James didn't think the amount of help they received was abnormal: "It actually shows how great the community is. Everybody can pull together and come as one just to make sure one is found, I mean the community is great. I love Hackleburg," he said.
Feel-good stories like these put me in a good mood and remind me that there are still selfless, good-hearted people willing to help others at the drop of a hat. I'm glad to see that Kyle is doing well, but I wonder if he got to keep a puppy. I sure hope so!
