Save or splurge? Dry shampoos

I'll be the first to admit, I'm a product junkie. I used to work at a magazine where the shelves and shelves of products that would give any normal person a headache, actually made me giddy. But among the mountains of nail polishes, eye shadows, cream and lotion of every type, my favorite product–the one go-to item that I could never live without and would take with me to a deserted island–is dry shampoo.

I've always had a battle with my thin, limp, greasy strands–problems made even worse now by the raging post-pregnancy hormones that are still doing a number on my body. So dry shampoo is my go-to savior.

I recently road tested two: the pricey Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray and the more affordable John Frieda Luxurious Volume Dry Spray Shampoo. So what's the verdict?

I honestly loved both. But here's my takes on each:

Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray ($25) was pretty amazing. It smelled fantastic and didn't leave one bit of the white residue that so many of these dry shampoo products usally do. The only thing I found a bit off-putting is that the product itself sprays on wet, which is really the opposite of what I need a dry shampoo to be (I mean, it's called DRY shampoo). Nevertheless, I followed the directions, let it dry, and then ran my fingers through my hair and gently brushed it. The result? Nicely smelling hair that looked utterly non-greasy–and volumy at that!

The other option, John Frieda Luxurious Volume Dry Spray ($7), was incredible as well. I loved the smell on this one also, and I'm really picky about scented products. It sprayed on dry, with absolutely no white residue, an incredible feat for a drugstore mass market brand I think. My hair looked ridiculously good all day, with tons of volume and bounce–heck, it felt as perfect as it did when I was pregnant!

In the end, though__, I think the John Frieda dry shampoo wins out.__ Not only is it a great price, it's easily available, and works like a charm. Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo is a good option too, but the whole srpay-wet thing just defeats the purpose of using time-saving dry shampoos–and as a busy new mom, I need all the time-saving help I could get!
