The Fresh Dolls, a line of diverse & multicultural dolls our girls can relate to

Just in time for the holiday season, we've gotten wind of a line of dolls called The Fresh Dolls that features a diverse collection of toys that a wide range of children can relate to. The Fresh Dolls, as well as its sister line, Positively Perfect, come in a variety of skin tones, hair and eye colors, as well as with a variety of hair textures, and both girl and boy dolls are available.

The Fresh Dolls, which are now available at major retailers including Walmart and Amazon, were created by Dr. Lisa Williams, a former professor who was inspired to develop her first line of diverse dolls after writing children's books that were being sold in Walmart. The retail giant suggested she create a line of dolls and while she was initially uninterested, she agreed to participate in a doll market study during which one young Black girl rejected the brown-skinned doll, calling its skin "nasty."

From that point on, the author was determined to create dolls that all children could relate to. "I knew then and there, that I had to change my life's focus," she said.

The doll study was life-changing.

"There was no way I could sit comfortably behind my desk as our young girls believed the lie that their skin tone was not beautiful," Dr. Lisa said. She launched her first line of dolls, Positively Perfect in 2009, followed by The Fresh Dolls line in 2017.

Dr. Lisa is on a mission.

"We know that over 50% of all children are multicultural. However, that's not currently represented in the toy aisles. It is our sincere desire to continue working with retailers to increase diversity," Dr. Lisa told E!

Dr. Lisa's company has created diverse dolls for both toddlers and older children. The Positively Perfect line features a range of 18-inch, soft-body dolls with washable hair, and The Fresh Doll collection is comprised of 11.5-inch, poseable fashion dolls.

The Fresh Dolls line includes a collection of male dolls dubbed "The Fresh Squad." These dolls also come in a range of skin tones. One is bald, one has long dreadlocks and the third has a curly fade. At this time, "The Fresh Squad" dolls are being sold exclusively online.
