The journey to motherhood isn't always simple and quick. For a lot of women, it takes years–and sometimes decades–and countless tries and treatments to make that a reality. That was the case for a 68-year-old woman from Nigeria, whose dream of being a mother came true when she welcomed twin babies after years of trying.

The woman, Margaret Adenuga, and her husband, Noah Adenuga, welcomed two babies–a boy and a girl. They have been dreaming of becoming parents since they got married in 1974. The husband spoke to CNN and shared details of his and his wife's incredible journey that led to two adorable bundles of joy.
The couple had been wishing to become parents.
A Nigerian woman named Margaret Adenuga gave birth to twins–a little boy and a girl–at the age of 68. Her husband, Noah Adenuga, who is 77 years old, spoke to CNN about their journey to parenthood. The man told the publication that they married in 1974 and had been trying ever since to have kids of their own.
They went through various failed attempts.

The woman went through three previous IVF procedures before she became pregnant with their twins the fourth time around. She successfully welcomed their babies via Cesarean section at 37 weeks. The mom and dad said they never gave up hope, even after their three failed attempts. "I am a dreamer, and I was convinced this particular dream of ours will come to pass," he told CNN.
The hospital didn't make the news public right away.

The twin babies were born last week at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. CNN is reporting that the hospital made the decision to not make the news public right away after the twins' birth to give the first-time mother time to rest, heal, and fully recuperate.
Her doctor spoke about the dangers of having babies after a certain age.

There have been more and more women who have been able to welcome babies at an older age. The Nigerian doctor who delivered the babies, Dr. Adeyemi Okunowo, spoke to CNN about the case and revealed that a specialist team was put together at the hospital to monitor the woman and the babies because of her age. "As an elderly woman and a first-time mother, it was a high-risk pregnancy and also because she was going to have twins but we were able to manage her pregnancy to term," he told CNN. The doctor shared that even if women can conceive through IVF at a later age, the medical dangers should be thoroughly spelled out by their doctors before they take on that journey. "There are age-related medical complications that come with being pregnant at that age such as the baby being born preterm. She's lucky but many may succumb to other complications during or after having a baby," he said.
