Cardi B stuns on cover of Vogue with daughter Kulture & talks about being a great mom

For its January 2020 issue, Vogue featured four different covers celebrating "four fearless creative forces, role models, and mothers." One of those covers went to none other than the often audacious and always outspoken rap star Cardi B. Cardi's cover is particularly special because not only does it mark her debut on the cover of Vogue, she shares the debut and cover with her daughter, Kulture.

Considering how profoundly motherhood affects Cardi's choices in life–both personally and professionally–it's perfect that they are on the cover together. In the accompanying interview, Cardi gets into what it's like to be a mother in her crazy world, which includes touring, performing, and constantly being in the public eye.

Although, money and fame afford Cardi privileges that many of us do not have, they can't take away all the challenges that come with being a mother.

Kulture was born to Cardi and her husband, Offset, on July 10, 2018. In case you hadn't noticed, Cardi didn't exactly slow down after the birth of her daughter. She's been busy performing, touring, recording, and even acting in the movie much-acclaimed Hustlers movie with Jennifer Lopez. Thankfully, Cardi has had help from her mother, but now that Kulture is getting older, things are becoming tougher.

“Flying is hard on Kulture, so if I go to a place and I’m not going to stay more than five days, I’m not bringing her,” Cardi told Vogue. “But now that’s getting harder, because she’s sleeping on my chest and she doesn’t want to let me go, or she sees you on FaceTime and she’s crying. It’s kind of like a friendship now, and it’s hard to leave your little friend.”

Even with all the craziness, motherhood helps keep Cardi grounded.

“Being a mom–how can I say it? Things are a little bit harder to balance, but it’s good for the mental. Like, if I’m playing with my daughter, I forget about the issues,” Cardi said. What mother can't relate to that?

She's always thinking about her child.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that Cardi ever forgets that she's a mom and not just a mom, but a great mom. She told Vogue:

“I could shake my ass, I could be the most ratchet-est person ever, I could get into a fight tomorrow, but I’m still a great mom. All the time I’m thinking about my kid. I’m shaking my ass, but at the same time I’m doing business, I’m on the phone with my business manager saying, make sure that a percentage of my check goes to my kid’s trust. I give my daughter so much love, and I’m setting her up for a future. I want to tell her that a lot of the shit that I have done in life–no matter what I did, knowing that I wanted to have kids made me go harder to secure a good future for my kids.”

She's not your typical mom, but she is indeed a loving mother, who only wants the best for her child.
