Princess Charlotte looks thrilled on her first day of school

Princess Charlotte has become the latest royal child to enroll in school. The little one was joined by mom Kate Middleton and dad Prince William as they dropped her off on her first day on Thursday, September 5. The 4-year-old will be attending the Thomas's Battersea school in London, where she is joining her big brother Prince George, who is in his third year.

The Duchess of Cambridge missed her son's first day in 2017 due to sickness when she was pregnant with Prince Louis. This time around, both parents walked in holding their babies' hands as the kids got ready to embark on a new adventure.

Before heading off to school, the brother and sister posed for first-day-of-school pics.

These two seemed so excited to start their new year of school together. Look at those smiles! "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share a photograph of Prince George and Princess Charlotte at Kensington Palace this morning," the palace captioned the lovely portrait. "The photo was taken shortly before Their Royal Highnesses left for Thomas's Battersea. Kensington Palace."

Charlotte was all smiles when meeting her teacher.

The couple and their two older kids met with Helen Haslem at the entrance, and Charlotte let go of her mother's hand to greet the woman, who is the head of the lower school.

Prince George looked like a real expert.

On his first day of school in 2017, Prince George looked serious and focused. Now that he is a seasoned pro, he walked in confidently but also laid back, and he turned to look at his little sis a few times.

Of course, the Royal Highness was a bit shy at first.

First days of school can be scary enough for kids, so imagine what it's like for these royal children when the whole world is watching? The princess hid behind her mother's skirt at first, but she slowly started letting her fun personality shine through.

She warmed up when it was time to get acquainted with the school staff.

She had been firmly grasping her mom Kate's hand, but she let it go as soon as the head of the lower school came to greet them. Charlotte was all smiles, shook her hand, and then began playing with her adorable ponytail.

The dress Kate wore was stunning and fit her so beautifully. The kids looked so dapper themselves in their adorable school outfits. Charlotte wore a navy blue skirt and top with a red trim, Mary Jane-style black shoes, and white socks. The couple are said to pay $23,000 a year per child for the private school, and we have no doubt young Charlotte will make the most out of it.
