The beauty guru announced in early December that she had given birth to her son, Leafar Von D Reyes. To share the news, Kat shared an Instagram photo of her husband, Rafael Reyes (aka Leafar Seyer), holding their child–and it was the cutest! Caring for a newborn comes with some challenges, and the makeup mogul has already dealt with some issues herself. She also opened up in a different post about the breastfeeding struggles she's been facing and shared how leaning on a strong community of women and her husband has already been helping her in her new motherhood journey.
For the first time, Kat shared a video holding her baby!
The adorable clip that Rafael filmed made our hearts melt! The little boy is sweetly sleeping on his mother's chest and she's smiling and in complete bliss. "So lucky to have such a supportive husband watching over me and our son during this postpartum stage," she captioned the post. "Feeling so much love. Te amo, mi querido @prayers Sweet dreams, everybody! "
Check out just how happy she looks!
This moment was so perfect. Kat's smile was in reaction to her husband who was talking in the clip and said: "My two beauties. My queen and my king." These two are so freaking sweet!
She also shared this adorable pic of baby Leafar. He totally looks like his daddy!
The new parents, who said they would be taking some time away from social media to spend time with their child, have been sharing some gorgeous pics of the baby boy. "I made myself a mini-@prayers ," the Kat Von D Beauty founder captioned this pic on December 6.
She also shared an update about how breastfeeding was going for them.
Days after the birth announcement, Kat shared a video feeding her child with a message about the struggle they faced soon after he was born. "During the first two days of Leafar’s life, his blood sugar count had been low, and as much as I had committed myself to strictly breastfeed, my milk hadn’t come in yet. The pediatrician suggested asking around to see if any friends might have a bit of extra milk they could donate–and if not, I’d have to consider supplementing with formula–something we personally did not want to do," she wrote, adding that her midwife connected her with a mom who followed a plant-based diet and was willing to donate some milk for her son.
"Needless to say, Leafar’s levels boosted, and we are now happily breastfeeding at home. Can’t thank @mattersofmotherhood enough for getting us through those rough nights with your donation," she continued. "This is true community. True sisterhood. True kindness. And I can’t wait to pay it forward one day soon. "
Kat cleared things up in her caption after some fans took to the comments section of her post.
"For the first 2.5 days my breasts were producing colostrum (not the same thing as milk) and it’s absolutely normal for mom’s milk not to come in until day 5 sometimes," she added. "With that being said, my little one just needed to get through one night’s worth of feedings with supplemented donors milk. And I’m happy to report my milk came in shortly after that! So thanks for all the love and support everyone! Let’s keep it positive!"
We're glad that the new parents were able to get the help they needed!
Everyone who has had a baby knows that things sometimes come up that we're not prepared for, so having a strong village around you is important. We're so happy baby Leafar is safe and healthy, and we can't wait to see more of him and his happy parents in the future!
