Celebrities love getting creative with baby names. Wanting an unusual and special moniker for your child is definitely understandable. We all want our kids to feel unique and special. Remember when Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple and everyone made such a big deal about it being an odd choice? Now, Apple doesn't actually seem all that unusual. The trend of quirky baby names has been a thing in Hollywood for a while, and it's not going away anytime soon.
More from MamásLatinas: Celebrities who are expecting babies in 2019
The Kardashians always seem to make headlines for their baby name choices. Kim Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West, have four children together, and all of them have out-of-the-box names that everyone freaked out about initially. We're not sure why anyone is ever surprised by their choices, because can you even imagine them naming their children something like Shirley or David? Not gonna happen. But they are certainly not the only celebrities doing the naming game with names that we've never heard before.
Many other celebrities including Aislinn Derbez and Mauricio Ochmann have chosen names that aren't on most baby names lists. And the list of other stars that have joined them and given their babies some special names continues to grow. One of the newest additions to that list is Kylie Jenner, who just had her second baby and like with her first, she chose quite a quirky name for him. Keep reading to find out what Kylie named her baby, along with more interesting celebrity baby names.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott gave their son an inspired name.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott revealed their son's name a few days after he was born in February 2022, after Kylie said she wanted to wait until she was sure she loved the name before announcing it. His name is Wolf Webster and it's unusual, but we really like it!
Jeannie Mai and Jeezy chose a lovely and unique name for their little one.
TV show host Jeannie Mai and rapper Jeezy named their baby, Monaco Mai. It's a very pretty name for their baby girl, and definitely less common than some other destination-inspired names.
Ashley Tisdale's baby's name is so interesting.
Actor Ashley Tisdale had her first baby in 2021, and named her Jupiter Iris. The name was actually inspired by a song her mom used to sing to her when she was little, and she said she picked out before she was even pregnant.
Lea Michele gave her baby one of the most interesting names EVER.
The Glee actress and her hubby, entrepreneur and business owner Zandy Reich, became parents on August 20, 2020. They had a healthy baby boy whose name is Ever Leo. The Leo part is not all that surprising when it comes to name choice, but this might be the first time ever that we hear of a baby being named Ever. It has a certain ring to it, that's for sure.
Aislinn Derbez's daughter has the prettiest name.
Aislinn Derbez and Mauricio Ochmann are the parents of an adorable, gorgeous little girl they named Kailani. The couple have a deep love of Hawaii and that's where they got the inspiration for their name. They announced their split in March 2020, but their little one still keeps them connected.
Elon Musk gave his son the most rare name.
Elon Musk and his former girlfriend, singer Grimes, welcomed their first child together on May 4, 2020. The Space X CEO confirmed the news on Twitter, sharing a photo of himself holding his son. He responded to a fan who asked about the child's name and he wrote: "X Æ A-12 Musk." The mamá gave a thorough explanation and breakdown of the name, writing: "X, the unknown variable ⚔️, Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence), A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent,(A=Archangel, my favorite song) (⚔️ metal rat)."
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden's baby is named Rad for short.
On January 3, 2020, Cameron and hubby Benji announced the birth of their baby girl Raddix Madden. It was really surprising because it wasn’t public knowledge that they had even been expecting. Part of their announcement said: “While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one’s privacy. So we won’t be posting or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute!! Some would even say RAD:)”
Kim Kardashian's fourth child has an interesting name.
When Kim and Kanye welcomed their fourth baby, they already had three kids with nontraditional names, so they couldn't go average with their fourth child, right? The former pair chose the name Psalm for their youngest son when he was born in May 2019.
Vanessa and Kobe Bryant's youngest has a gorgeous name.
Vanessa and her late husband, Kobe Bryant, gave their kids some Italian-inspired names, like Natalia, Gianna, and Bianka. Their fourth daughter's name is Capri Kobe Bryant, and she was named after an island in Italy’s Bay of Naples. The couple's connection to the European nation comes from Kobe living there for some time when he was a kid.
Cardi B and Offset got super creative with their baby's name.
The rappers named their child Kulture Cephus, after her dad's group Migos' album Culture. They used the letter "K" for her name because her dad's real name is Kiari. It's a beautiful sounding name and the change in spelling makes it all that more unusual.
If you thought Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's firstborn would have a traditional name, you were SO wrong.
When they wre together, Kim and Kanye removed the word "average" from their vocabulary as far as we can tell, so there was no doubt that their first child would be named something special. They chose North West as her name, and honestly, it took some getting used to when she was born in 2013, but we are totally into it now.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z drew inspiration from different things for their first child's name.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z raised eyebrows when they decided to name their daughter Blue Ivy. Her first name was inspired by Rebecca Solnit's 2005 novel A Field Guide to Getting Lost, and her middle name "Ivy" was inspired by the roman numeral for the number 4 (IV), which is the couple's favorite number. Most people probably wouldn’t even associate the name Ivy with the inspiration, but that’s where it came from.
Kim and Kanye's second child's name did cause some controversy.
When the former pair revealed their son Saint West's name in December 2015, some people were not pleased. The couple reportedly chose that name because they considered him a "miracle baby" after Kim had trouble conceiving him. It's really not such a strange name when you consider that there are plenty of people named Santos in Spanish.
Kim and Kanye's second daughter's name is an ode to her dad's humble beginnings.
Kanye has been repping Chicago, Illinois, since the start of his career. The rapper grew up there and has always been vocal about his love for the city, so it came as no surprise when they announced in 2018 that their third child's name would be Chicago West. Kim calls her “Chi Chi” all the time.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott's little girl is so adorable.
And, of course, the edgy rapper and the makeup mogul didn't choose a basic name for their little one! Her name is Stormi Webster, and although Kylie said she almost named her baby Rose, Stormi is way cooler. Not that everyone found it cool when they first heard it, but whatevs.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's baby has the same name as a fruit or computer.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin jumped on the anything-but-average baby name craze when they named their first child Apple. We're surprised they weren't sued for copyright infringement by the computer makers, but then again, the name first belonged to the fruit. The consciously uncoupled couple's son is named Moses, which is a classic name.
Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna's baby is a dream come true.
The former reality television couple named their daughter Dream Renée Kardashian. The name is beautiful, but definitely out of the ordinary. Still, as far as words turned into names it really doesn't get much better than Dream. Imagine how sweet it must be to grow up knowing that your parents think you are a dream come true?
Khloé Kardashian has a great reason behind her daughter's name.
While many thought the name True was inspired by the news that the baby's father, Tristan Thompson, had been unfaithful to Khloé during her pregnancy, that wasn't the case. It's a family name! Koko revealed that it was inspired by her maternal grandfather, whose name was Robert True Houghton, which makes way more sense. Why would you want to give your kid a name that refers to their father's infidelity? That would just be mean.
Beyoncé didn't settle when it came time to name her twins, either.
After having Blue Ivy, there was no way Bey and Jay-Z were going to give some simple names to their twin kids, who were born in June 2017. They chose Rumi for their daughter and Sir for their son. This isn't the first time we've heard of those names, but they are rather uncommon.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden came up with some out-there names.
Never one to follow convention, Nicole named her daughter Harlow (which also inspired her jewelry and clothing company name, House of Harlow) and her son Sparrow. It's sweet how the names rhyme and go so well together. Harlow and Sparrow, Nicole should use that name for another line. It's perfect.
Liam Payne wasn't sure about giving his son such an unusual name.
The former One Direction singer and his then-girlfriend Cheryl Cole named their baby Bear!
"I wanted a more traditional name and she wanted a name that was more unusual. And the reason she chose Bear in the end was because Bear is a name that when you leave a room, you won’t forget. And I like that," he said in an interview with Total Access in 2017. "When I look at him, he’s just Bear. At first I wasn’t really having it. I was like, 'I’m not really sure. I don’t really understand.' Now I look at him and he’s Bear. You become your name as you get older anyway."
Adam Levine's daughter has an interesting name.
The Maroon 5 singer and his wife, Behati Prinsloo, named their first child Dusty Rose Levine. We've definitely heard the names Dusty and Rose on their own, but together, they are just a little extra. They make you think of both a color and a flower. They sound great together.
Chris Brown is known as the Prince of R&B.
Is it really all that surprising that he chose to name his daughter Royalty? Her name will always be a reminder to her that she rules her father's heart. What we're wondering is if anybody ever shortens her name to Roy? Or maybe just Ro. Ro is cute.
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren stuck to one letter for all their kids' initials.
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren went nontraditional with both of her daughters' names, deciding on Honor for the eldest and Haven for her little sister. The couple kept the "H" names going when they named their third child, a son, Hayes. Honor, Haven, and Hayes, there's no way the H thing was an accident.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's twins have some rare and gorgeous names.
Mariah and Nick didn't go too out-of-the-box with their daughter's name, Monroe, but decided to go for something a little funkier for their son's name, Moroccan. We love them both individually and they sound great together, too.
Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll had a little fun with their kid's name.
Kate Winslet gave her first child with husband Ned Rocknroll an unusual name, to say the least: Bear Blaze. In case you are wondering, Ned Rocknroll was not born with that name and he has since gone back to his birth name, which is Edward Abel Smith.
Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar were inspired by a movie for their second child's name.
Though the couple went with Charlotte for their first child, they then decided to go a little less traditional with their son's moniker, naming him Rocky after the famous Sylvester Stallone movie. Hey, that character is legendary! Anyone with that name is bound to be a champ.
Holly Madison and Pasquale Rotella love nature-inspired names.
The former Playboy model named her daughter Rainbow Aurora. Her son is named Forest. They are both such great names derived from nature. We love that their names work so well together. There really is an endless supply of names that can be drawn from nature. River and Spring are great options, too.
Jason Lee and Beth Riesgraf's child's name is a head-scratcher for sure.
Perhaps the most out there name of all is Jason Lee's choice for his first child. The actor famously named his son Pilot Inspektor. We're pretty open-minded about names and all, but this one still makes us wonder why. Why, Jason, why? Was Panty Inspektor taken? Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves.
Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellán kept it r-real cool with their children's names.
The Sin City director and his then-wife chose completely off-the-wall names for their four sons: Rebel, Racer, Rocket, and Rogue. Their daughter's name is Rhiannon! Not the running "R" theme? Could it have something to do with Robert Rodriguez having both his first and last name start with an R?
