Make your own baby food with these 10 super fruits & veggies

Your baby is finally old enough to be introduced to pureed foods. If you're like me, the thought of your infant having more than just milk is overwhelming at first. I decided it was time to take the plunge with my own son–and making his food was easier than I thought! These 10 fruits and veggies are quick, delicious and healthy!

Avocado

Avocado is already creamy, which makes it very easy to prepare this superfood for your baby. You want to make sure you wash it thoroughly before slicing. Then mash or puree. I like to add my baby's formula milk in too.

Pumpkin

Pumpkins are in the squash family and are rich in vitamin A and beta carotene. Once you wash and peel the veggie, cut into cubes and boil until fork tender. Then blend and allow to cool before serving.

Spinach

Spinach is packed with calcium and nutrients for your growing baby. Try blending with some milk or filtered water to give it a smooth consistency.

Sweet potato

"Babies and toddlers are more likely to eat foods they see their peers and parents eating," explains the AAP site. Sweet potatoes are a baby-friendly root vegetable rich in vitamins A and C. Wash well, peel and dice into cubes. Then boil, mash and serve once cooled or freeze for later use.

Blueberry

Blueberries should never be given to a baby whole. Blend with a splash of filtered water and that's it! They'll enjoy all of that vitamin K, vitamin C, and manganese.

Mango

Mangoes are an excellent Latin ingredient to transform into baby food. Once ripe, you can peel, cut and blend the fruit up to a rich puree.

Apple

We all know "an apple a day keeps the doctor away!" Once you peel, halve, core and chop the apples, boil in a pot for about 10 minutes in low heat. Once tender, add in a food processor.

Peas

Peas are one of those greens kids are super picky about, but you can introduce them early and increase your chances of them loving it in the future! You can boil them whole and blend.

Banana

Bananas are my son's favorite so far! They're rich in vitamin C, potassium and dietary fiber. The creaminess of a ripe banana makes for an easy mash without having to pull out your food processor.
