I must be living under a rock or something because I had no idea what "IWS" or "GNOC" meant before now. In fact, I had no idea teens had internet slang for sexting–my goodness! When I was a teen I was too busy just trying to survive high school, forget sending text messages and pictures. Oh wait, I don't think phone cameras even existed back then … but still!
If you think about it, these silly teens are actually a lot smarter than you'd think. I mean, there's nothing smart about sending a boy in your chemistry class pictures of you with no pants on. But they're using internet slang in case their parents get a hold of their texts. If you saw someone texted your daughter "GYPO" would you know that meant get your pants off? I didn't think so!
So even if you don't care about being tech savvy, it's probably important you learn what some of these acronyms mean or at least keep your eyes open because they could be red flags to of dangerous teen behavior. "It's a lot to keep track of," Katie Greer, a national internet safety expert tells CNN. "Asking kinds not only gives you great information, but it shows that you're paying attention and sparks the conversation around their online behaviors, which is imperative."
