When Sarah Kam of Omaha, Nebraska went into labor on Thursday, she and her husband, Hugh, decided get in the car and head off to their midwife when the contractions were about five minutes apart. Before they left though, Hugh covered the seats in his Lexus. Why? Well, this is the couple's third child and their second child was born in the car on a highway exit ramp. Hugh just wanted to make sure to protect the car seats in case the same thing happened again. Guess what? It did happen again! Sarah gave birth in the car on the same highway exit ramp as before!

Their second child, Ezra, was born last year on the shoulder of the 42nd Street exit on I-80. The couple was trying to get to their midwife, but Ezra couldn't wait anymore. Hugh who is a software developer barely had time to pull over and catch his son.
This time around, the couple really didn't want a repeat of the car birth so they left in plenty of time (or so they thought) to get to the midwife, but then Sarah started screaming, "Oh, no, it's happening again! You're going to have to pull over." Hugh tried to keep going, driving while keeping an eye on Sarah, but Sarah wasn't having it. She told Hugh, "You've got to catch her, or she's going to go on the floor!" Hugh pulled over on the shoulder of the 42nd Street exit on I-80 and caught his baby girl, Evelyn.
I'm thrilled to report that both mother and newborn daughter are doing well. After the birth, the couple and baby made their way to the midwife's home where they spent the night. Evelyn weighed 7 pounds and measured 19 1/4 inches.
I'm not sure whether this couple plans on having any more babies, but I would suggest that if they do they ask the midwife to meet them at the highway exit ramp next time.
