Rosario Dawson is a new mom!

Is it just me, or are more and more celebs having kids on the down low? Earlier this year, we found out Eva Mendes had successfully pulled a fast one on us, hiding her glorious baby bump from us well into her pregnancy. And now this: Word on the street has it Rosario Dawson may have become a first time mom sometime this fall. Ahhh! How did we miss this? Where was her tell-tale baby bump? And who's the daddy? I have so many questions!

Well, rest assured Rosario did NOT pull an Eva on us–not really, anyway. A source tells Page Six the 35-year-old starlet adopted a 12-year-old girl sometime in October. Though Rosario has yet to confirm or deny the rumor, I'm actually inclined to believe that it's true. Rosario, who was adopted by her stepfather Greg Dawson when she was only a year old, has made no secret of her plans to adopt. In 2008, the Sin City star told Latina Magazine she's "always wanted to adopt kids," adding that, at the time, she'd been thinking about it more and more. "That idea has stayed in the back of my head," she said. "My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they're getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going, 'Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could've known her.' . . . Whatever time I have, I want it."

It may have taken Rosario six years to pull the trigger, you know what they say: better later than never! Had Rosario adopted sooner, she may have crossed paths with this particular 12-year-old, whoever she is. If you know anything about adoption, it's that older kids are less likely to find a permanent home than babies and toddlers. That why, if the rumors are true and Rosario did adopt a preteen, I believe in my heart of hearts that this adoption was totally worth the wait.

Besides, Rosario's in a great place in her life and career right now. I have no doubt in my mind that she, much like her mami and her abuelita before her, will make an excellent mother–especially to a 12-year-old girl. Honestly, who would benefit from having a badass social advocate and creative artist as a mami more than a preteen? No one, that's who!

If the rumors are true, then I believe Rosario crossing paths with this girl was kismet. There is literally no one out there who needs a strong mother figure as much as a preteen girl in foster care. I'm just glad that this girl, whoever she is, got Rosario.
