Coconut – Walnut Sensation
Walnuts are powerful antioxidants and proud members of the Superfoods category. This smoothie will give you all the nutrients you need. In fact it's as nutritionally packed as a steak. Walnuts have the highest content of Omega-3 fatty acids, copper and magnesium which aid in developing healthy bones. All you need is one cup of soy milk, half a cup of vanilla ice cream, half a cup of coconut flakes, one tablespoon of honey and a quarter cup of walnuts. Chop the walnuts finely and blend all the ingredients.
Kale and Avocado Smoothie
I lived on this smoothie when I had my second child. Kale is also one of the Superfoods and this smoothie is quite the meal in a glass. All you need is one cup of lacinato kale, one peeled avocado, one cup of water, one cup of Greek yogurt and one tablespoon of honey to whip it up. Blend all the ingredients and enjoy this delicious high-protein drink for lunch or dinner. I added a little bit of salt and pepper to mine and had pita chips as a side.
Almond Extravaganza Smoothie
Almonds pack a lot of fiber, which is great to keep your bowels moving. This filling smoothie will provide you and your baby with all the nutrients and vitamins you need as almonds are rich in biotin. All you need is one cup of almond milk or low-fat milk, one tablespoon of cocoa powder, one tablespoon of agave and a quarter cup of raw or candied almonds. Finely chop the almonds and blend all the ingredients.
Orange and Carrots with a Spinach Twist
This favorite combination of carrots and orange juice just got more nutritious by adding some spinach to the mix. The green leaves are packed with folate and iron which are a great thing to eat during pregnancy. Spinach can feel a bit bland at times but by blending it into a asmoothie, you won't even notice you ate it. All you need is one cup of coconut milk, a quarter cup of shredded carrots, one cup of spinach, one tablespoon of honey and half a cup of orange juice. Blend all the ingredients and add a sprig of fresh rosemary if you have it handy.
Apricots and Banana Soy Smoothie
This smoothie is perfect for breakfast or dessert. All you need is half a cup of vanilla soy milk, half a cup low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt, one peeled banana, half a cup of apricot juice and three ice cubes. Blend all the ingredients and add some wheat germ for extra nutrition.
Mint, Cucumber & Watermelon Crush
This delicious low-fat smoothie is a great refresher for hot summer days. It's packed with vitamin C and calcium. All you need is half a cup of cucumber, peeled and cubed, one cup of chopped watermelon, half a cup of Greek yogurt, five or more mint leaves, one tablespoon of agave and lime zest. Toss all the ingredients in a blender, add some ice and enjoy!
