RECALL! Graco car seats could be putting your child in grave danger!

On Tuesday a recall for 1.9 million infant car seats was issued by Graco Children's Products. This is the largest recall of infant car seats in American history and comes after a five-month battle with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA claimed that a particular buckle that was used in the car seats could make it hard to unbuckle a child during an emergency. There have even been reports of parents having to cut their kids out of infant car seats because of faulty buckles. Fortunately, there are no reported injuries because of the issue.

Earlier in the year, Graco recalled 4.2 million toddler seats for similar issues, but they did not believe the buckle would be a safety issue for infants because the seats were designed differently. Safety regulators weren't so sure and kept pressing the issue. Graco now says, the recall "is in the best interest of consumers and underscores our shared commitment to child passenger safety."

So here's what you need to know and do if you have a Graco infant car seat:

  • Visit the Graco recall website to find out if you own one of the affected car seats.
  • If your car seat is affected, Graco will send you a replacement part.
  • Graco says it is safe to continue using the car seat until a replacement part is received, but they recommend using these cleaning instructions to make it easier to use.
