Four years ago, Rachelle Friedman's life changed forever. It was just weeks before her wedding, when one of her bridesmaids decided to playfully push her into a pool. But the fun turned tragic when this left her paralyzed from the chest down. "I knew it was bad because I remember looking down and not being able to feel the coldness of my legs," Friedman told People. She would never walk again, not even down the aisle for her own wedding. But her main concern was if she would ever have kids, but the miracle that made it possible for this woman to be a mom will leave you speechless …

Unfortunately for Rachelle, conceiving wasn't an option. The paralyzed bride was put on an important medication to keep her blood pressure up–a medication could be extremely dangerous to a fetus. So getting pregnant was out of the question. That is, until an angel in the form of an old friend showed up and became their miracle.
Laurel Humes, an old college friend Rachelle hadn't spoken to in almost a decade, was following Rachelle's story for years. Humes read Rachelle's blog regularly and learned that Rachelle was in need of a surrogate. The stay-at-home mom immediately reached out and amazingly volunteered to become her surrogate! Wow!
Rachelle, now an author, blogger and motivational speaker was thrilled. "I always thought I would run around the pool and the beach with my child, and while I'll miss not being able to do that, there are so many things involved with being a parent that I'm fully capable of doing," she said. "I can do a lot more than what people think I can." She's even written an inspirational memoir, The Promise: A Tragic Accident, a Paralyzed Bride, and the Power of Love, Loyalty and Friendship.
I think it's SO amazing that Rachelle hasn't allowed her injury to get her down. This woman is such an inspiration and I am so touched to hear that her college friend has chosen to become her surrogate. It just goes to show that there's still good people on this planet!
