Researchers examined the cholesterol levels in 501 couples who were actively trying to get pregnant and weren't being treated for infertility. And while we all know how important it is to your overall health to keep your cholesterol levels in check, many people may not realize how crucial it is when trying to conceive a baby.
The study concluded that women who had high cholesterol also went a longer time trying to get pregnant. But it's not just the future moms who were affected–guys were too! In fact, couples in which both parties had high cholesterol levels had the hardest time getting pregnant when compared to couples with cholesterol levels in the normal range. Yikes!
Obviously, maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle is important at all times, whether you're thinking of having a baby or not. But parents-to-be should definitely have that added motivation to get their cholesterol levels where they need to be, if they aren't already. So where do you start? You could try exercising more often, switching up your diet, and trying some of these fertility-boosting foods. Hopefully, that will get you and your partner healthy and ready for baby whenever one does come your way!
