One day I absentmindedly grabbed a pack of a dozen plastic Easter eggs off the shelf at the grocery store even though I had no clue what I was going to do with them. We are actually going to be out of town during the holiday, so no Easter egg hunt happening here. I ultimately decided to pack three of those eggs each with a little treat in it to give to my son on Easter morning, but then I was still left with nine eggs. I know I can save them for next year, but honestly I'm more of a real dyed egg type of girl–I still don't know exactly why I bought them in the first place, but I'm glad I did. After going to storytime at the library and attending my son's weekly Spanish class, it dawned on me that I could make him his own little maracas, modeled after the egg shakers you always see in toddler classes.

In less than five minutes and for just cents apiece, I was able to put together several brightly colored shakers. Not only are they fun for my son to play with (he also uses them to cook in his play kitchen), but all of his little friends beeline to them as well.
Here's how you can make your own, for Easter or anytime:
Materials:
Fillable plastic Easter eggs
Dry beans
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Instructions
1. Heat up your glue gun.
2. Select a few brightly colored plastic eggs.
3. Open them.
4. Put about 5-7 beans in each egg. You can have your toddler count out the beans and put them in himself.
5. Close the eggs and shake each one to make sure you are happy with the sound. If you use too many, it will be muffled.
6. Apply a thin circle of glue around the inside rim of each egg, closing them as you go.
7. Allow to dry for 3-5 minutes.
8. Play!
