Hmmm, I was under the impression that a uterus is pretty necessary and crucial when it comes to getting pregnant and having a healthy pregnancy. That's why my mind has been completely blown by the case of a 22-year-old woman who was 32 weeks pregnant with a fetus that was growing in her abdomen OUTSIDE of her uterus. No one had any idea that this woman had an abdominal pregnancy because her ultrasounds looked normal. Then one day, she went to the doctor because of a stomach ache. Her ultrasound still looked normal, but doctors got suspicious and kept checking her out. A second ultrasound confirmed that she had an abdominal pregnancy. She had to be operated on right away. You're not gonna believe what doctors found when they cut her open.

The woman's uterus was intact and the 32-week-old fetus was found floating around in her abdomen with no amniotic sac. What?! I can't even begin to understand all of this.
There is very good news though. The baby that grew outside of a uterus and with no amniotic sac is fine. As in she is a healthy and alive baby girl. Yup, it's a girl! She weighed under 4 pounds at birth. The mother is fine as well.
This all could have turned out horrifically if not caught in time because the mother could have bled to death internally. As it was, they found about 1 liter of blood in the woman's abdomen. That's a lot of blood. She had to have a blood transfusion because of severe anemia.
I sure do love a happy ending, especially when there is a baby involved.
