5 Ways to deal with post-pregnancy hair loss

All this time I thought Kim Kardashian was rocking a head free of hair extensions since she decided to go blonde. But recent photos of shocking hair loss prove the exact opposite. Kim's actually been relying on weaves to pump up her post-pregnancy thinning hair. She was recently spotted running errands in Los Angeles with her hair tied up in a high bun, revealing balding spots all around her hairline. Could post-pregnancy be the reason why she's losing so much hair?

It's totally normal to experience hair loss and thinning post-pregnancy. In fact, it happens to a majority of women. You were probably thrilled during pregnancy with thick, shiny strands. But the decreased levels of estrogen after giving birth many times leads to hair loss. Such a bummer–I know! Good news is the hair loss is usually temporary. But there are a few things you can do to get that full head of hair back. Check it out!

Eat well: Experts believe that Kim's drastic weight loss may have triggered and worsened her hair loss. "What with the rapid amount of weight Kim lost and dieting in the months after the birth, this may have accelerated the hair loss, giving sparser looking patches, we can clearly see how thin her hair is around the hairline," hair extension expert Tatiana Karelina told the U.K.'s DailyMail. Make sure to maintain a healthy diet to avoid malnourishment or vitamin deficiency.

Take biotin: Doctors claim that Biotin, a water-soluble B vitamin can help hair grow thicker and longer. It's also great for your nails and skin. Try taking supplements daily.

Avoid hair extensions: Hair extensions could be the reason why Kim's hair loss and thinning hasn't gotten so bad. "In spite of giving instant full thick hair, weaves put extreme pressure on the hair and scalp, often too heavy and tight, the pulling and weight often cause severe migraines and Traction Alopeica, and actually aid hair loss rather than help to recover healthy hair regrowth," one expert told PerezHilton.com. Try giving your hair a break and if you can't forgo the hair extensions opt for light clip-ins ones you can easily remove during the day.

Stimulate your scalp: Try massaging an oil-scalp treatment, like PHYTO Botanical Scalp Treatment ($30) to help stimulate your hair follicles. A deep conditioning hair mask every week is also a must. You hair needs loads of moisture. Try Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy Extreme Restoration Treatment For Ultra-Damaged Hair ($68). It leaves hair super soft!

Get a haircut: If your hair is thinning out it might be time for a new cut. Ask your stylist to add in some layers to help disguise any bald patches and make hair appear instantly fuller. I also recommend styling hair with a volume boosting product like, Moroccanoil Root Boost Spray ($29).
