Mother legally ordered to stop breastfeeding & it’s BS!

This story just pisses me off. Jessica Moser of Northamton County, Pennsylvania has been in a custody battle with her daughter Jasmine's father for months. Jasmine is 10 months old and breastfeeding. Well, now a judge is telling Moser to stop breastfeeding so that Jasmine can stay overnight with her father and I'm sorry, but I think that is totally bullshit. If the baby is still breastfeeding, don't stop that because of a friggin' custody battle.

Yes, at 10 months a baby is eating other foods and yes of course many babies at 10 months are on formula, but this baby isn't. This baby will not feed from a bottle and her mother can't pump enough milk for two days anyway. That doesn't mean the judge should be able to decide when to wean the baby.

Argh! Seriously, there is no other way to work around visitations? Maybe if the child is still nursing, then the child is not ready to do an overnight stay at the father's home. It's not about what is best for the father, it's about what is best for the child.

No one is trying to keep the father from spending time with his child, but that shouldn't mean that the child's weaning schedule is set up to accommodate the father's convenience. Screw that.

Look, I breastfed both of my daughters for over 2 years and I know that in some circles that is considered an eternity, but not where I live. I'm glad I was able to do it and you know what? It was totally inconvenient because I couldn't be away from them for very long, but I'm thrilled we were able to do it. Not everyone can do extended breastfeeding, not everyone can breastfeed, but for those of us who choose to and can, the thought that a judge can order us to stop makes my blood boil.
