I'm 42 years old and have a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old. If you do the math you will quickly figure out that I didn't start having kids until my late 30s and it was totally by choice. I'm not here to tell anyone that they should wait to have kids if they want them at an earlier age, I'm just here to let you know some of the reasons that I'm thrilled I waited as long as I did. Someone else can tell you why it rocks to be a younger mom, but that wouldn't be me. I'm here to tell you why it rocks to be an older mom.

Here are just a few of the reasons why being an older mami works for me!

I don't feel like I'm missing out on ANYTHING. Bars, concerts, parties, I've had my fill. Staying home with my kids does not make me feel like I'm missing out on anything I haven't already done.

I'm getting older, but I'm super excited about life. I was a kid, then I was an adult for a long time, then I had a kids. Having kids has made me see life through a child's eyes again and I have the perspective to truly appreciate it as a gift.

When my daughters are old enough to get their periods, I probably won't have mine anymore. We won't all sync cycles and fight over chocolate and sanitary supplies.
-
I'm not in a hurry. I've had time, lots of time to myself, now the time I spend with my children I savor.

I know who I am and what's really important to me. I feel much more centered than I did when I was younger. I'm not as obsessed with every single one of my flaws as I used to be. My daughters will never hear me ask if my ass looks big in a pair of jeans.
Being a mother at any age has its pros and cons, but I can honestly say that I NEVER regret not having had children earlier. Fortunately, the stars and my body were kind, conception was not an issue for me because I know that is a HUGE reason women are told not to wait too long and I'm not telling anyone to wait too long, I'm just saying that some of us are really happy that we didn't rush.
