Baby North West reignites ridiculous swaddling debate

So, I had no idea, but it turns out there's an ongoing debate about whether or not you should swaddle your baby. And, a super cute photo of a swaddled baby North West shared on Instagram by mom Kim Kardashian last week seems to have brought the discourse back to the forefront. Those for swaddling claim it's the only thing that helped calmed their babies, while those against it worry about the safety of the practice.

Believe it or not, there's a real concern that a baby's hips can be hurt if the swaddling is done way too tightly. I'd never ever heard of that, but, apparently, it's a possibility.

The crazy thing about this debate is that swaddling has been around for centuries. People from all different backgrounds and cultures have used this technique to sooth their babies, but leave it to us, the inhabitants of one of the most powerful countries in the world, to find some kind of fault with this tradition.

While I will admit that learning to swaddle a baby takes a bit of practice, there's really not much to it and it seems to me like you'd have to be a real dimwit not to figure it out after the fifth or sixth time you do it.

And I say this, even though I didn't really swaddle either one of my babies that much. But it wasn't because I was worried I would hurt them, they simply hated it and, instead of calming them down, for them, being wrapped in a blanket was akin to wearing a straight-jacket. Even so, I support swaddling all the way because I've seen how it can work wonders… just not with my kids!
