I am not an expert in motherhood, I'm just making it up as I go along, but I do know that some things are wrong and shouldn't be done. I mean I'm no saint, I mess up from time to time, but when I catch myself I put an immediate stop to my bad behavior. Why? Because I realize how truly counterproductive and sometimes just downright harmful some behaviors are and most of all, I do not want my children to pick up any of these bad habits from me. And maybe–just maybe–I've gained enough wisdom to let go of this crap because that's all it is, crap cluttering up my brain.

This is by no means a comprehensive sampling, but here is a list of five things mothers should stop doing right NOW:
-
Stop putting yourself down. Just stop already, nobody (especially you) needs to hear you berate yourself.
-
Stop hiding from pictures. Don't avoid being in pictures with your family or kids because of your insecurities. Your children will treasure these photographic memories in the future and so will you.
-
Stop thinking that your children are an extension of you. Your children belong to themselves. You get the pleasure learning who they are.
-
Stop comparing yourself to other mothers. Be inspired, be impressed, but by no means feel that you have to be like someone else to be a good mother.
-
Stop feeling guilty for taking care of yourself. Just because you are a mother doesn't mean you stopped being you. The longest and most meaningful friendship you can ever have is with yourself. Take care of yourself, encourage yourself, and give yourself a time-out when you need it.
I realize these are all no-brainers, but let's face it there is such a thing as mami-brain, which makes even no-brainers slip our mind at times.
