When Mama June Shannon, of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo fame, recently found out that her daughter Lauryn, aka Pumpkin, was involved in cyberbullying, she took action immediately. She didn't do like so many other parents do and make an excuse for her child. Oh no, she confronted her daughter and made her face consequences. I applaud her for it.

Last week, Pumpkin posted two videos of two classmates on Instagram and she called them fat, ugly, and annoying. We all know that is not very nice. Well, one of the moms of the kids being ridiculed went on Mama June's Facebook page and called her a hypocrite for letting it happen, especially since Mama June is active in anti-bullying campaigns.
So what did Mama June do? She took immediate and swift action, made Pumpkin apologize to the people she bullied personally and on Instagram, and then Mama June took away her internet privileges. When it comes to bullying, Mama June told TMZ, "I do not tolerate it. As a mom, I jumped in, reached out to the parent and took action."
I think it's great that she took action and did not make excuses for her daughter or let her daughter off the hook. I'm hoping that this proves to be the lesson that Pumpkin needed to keep her from being a bully in the future. Pumpkin is only 13 years old, she's a kid and kids make mistakes. Kids who make mistakes need parents to help them figure out what those mistakes are and how not to make them again.
So, well done, Mama June! This is a good reminder to all parents that it is important to monitor our kids activity on social media. We may think they know better than to misbehave, but it's still up to us to keep an eye on them.
