A 2-year-old little boy wears a pink headband to Walmart and a horrible human being decides to teach that little boy a lesson in incomprehensible bigoted ugliness. That 2-year-old's mother, KatieVyktoriah, is a blogger at A Mother Thing and after sharing the story of what happened to her son, her website experienced so much traffic that it shut down the servers. She also told the story on Huffington Post where it has been abundantly shared via social media and has over 10,000 comments.
So what's the story? Ugh! It's about 2-year-old toddler Dexter. He has no problem wearing a Spiderman costume one moment and his mother's skirt as a dress the next moment. He shouldn't have a problem with it because he's 2 and he's supposed to be free of gender-specific hang-ups. Dexter wanted to wear a pink headband on a visit to Walmart with his mother and his 5-month-old brother and his mother let him because why wouldn't she? Well, the story only gets ugly from here…

What could be cuter than a 2-year-old boy wearing a pink headband at Walmart? I for one think that should be celebrated, but apparently one man after finding out that Dexter was a boy was not amused by his choice in hair accessories and walked over and removed the headband from Dexter's head, he then lightly smacked him on the side of the head, and said, "You'll thank me later, little man!"
What do you think Katie Vyktoriah did? She did what any sane mother would do. She told that man that if he touched her child again, she would cut his hands off! Did the man apologize? Nope! Instead he said, "Your son is a f*cking fa**got. He'll get shot for it one day." And then he left the store and mother comforted child as she choked back tears and no one said anything to the horrible man as he left or to the mother and her child.
There are so many things wrong with what happened in that situation and basically the only thing right with the story is that Katie Vyktoriah is an awesome mom who doesn't give a crap if her 2-year-old boy wears a pink headband and she stands up to an oversized bigoted bully and protects her child.
I am sorry that Dexter had to witness such idiocy, it sucks. I hope the memory of that horrible man fades, but that the knowledge that he has a kickass mom who knows what's up is what stays with him forever.
