On the Fourth of July, Albuerque woman Kendra Villanueva was only two weeks from her due date and happily celebrating the holiday by watching fireworks with her husband and friends, when disaster struck—literally.
As the expecting Villanueva and her husband started to head back inside the house to avoid the sudden change in weather, they—and the baby–were hit by lightning! How scary is that?!

"The next thing we know, we woke up on the ground and everybody was just trying to keep us calm," Villanueva's husband, Ian Gordon, told KRQE. Thankfully, firefighters were nearby at another call and were able to arrive at the scene quickly. The couple was rushed to a local hospital where Villanueva underwent an emergency c-section and delivered a baby girl.
Miraculously, all three—parents and baby—are now safe. The newborn, named Kimberly Samantha Rose Gordon, is still being monitored in the hospital, but is expected to be fine. "Somebody's definitely watching out for us," Gordon said.
The happy parents are already brainstorming nicknames for their little girl after the incident. One of the contenders? "Flash Gordon." Ha!
Wow, what a crazy story! As if there wasn't enough to worry about during a pregnancy to begin with, can you imagine getting hit by lightning on top of that?! I'm glad to hear that all three of them are OK and that soon they'll get to go home and enjoy their time as a family…just hopefully indoors and away from any storms. And hey, now they have one heck of a story to tell little Kimberly when she grows up!
