Jaron Mcgee,__ a 23-year-old father from Ohio, somehow thought it was a good idea to let his 9-year-old daughter drive their family car in the parking lot of Headlands State Park. I bet you can see where this is going. I'll give you a hint, the story ends with the father in jail for for child endangerment.

Allegedly, the 9-year-old was cruising around the parking lot with her dad riding shotgun when the car started going too fast. She lost control and smashed right into a large tree. Before the police got there, the little girl was taken from the scene by family members. Mcgee claimed the child was not harmed in the accident. Regardless, police decided to follow up and check in on the girl. Hmmm, I wonder why they doubted Mcgee's parenting call on the girl's well-being? Could it be because he let her drive a 1998 Honda into a tree?!
I know it is a long-standing tradition to take your kid to a parking lot to teach them to drive, but shouldn't you be doing that when they are old enough to have a driver's permit, surely not before they've even reached puberty.
Now, I know what I am talking about because when I was a child my mother used to send me every morning to "heat" up the car. People don't do that nowadays, but growing up, you always had to heat up the car. My mom would send me off with the car keys and my baby brother (no car seat in the car), to go heat up the car and wait for her. Well one day, as the car was running, I wondered what would happen if I took it out of park. I'll tell you what happened: It rolled into the garage door and destroyed it before I could put it back in park. It was terrifying, I thought I was going to kill myself and my brother.
When my mother came out to see what had happened, I cried and told her my 2-year-old brother had accidentally put the car in "drive" and I couldn't put it back in "park" fast enough. What was I supposed to do? I felt like I had just narrowly escaped death, I didn't want to risk my mother killing me for crushing the garage door and putting myself and my brother in danger.
