NEVER tell anyone what you want to name your baby!

If you already have kids then I'm sorry I wasn't able to give this advice sooner, but it you are just thinking about having kids or are pregnant then this advice will come in handy: DO NOT TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU PLAN TO NAME YOUR BABY. I'm not trying to yell at you, I'm just trying to warn you. You can tell them once the name is already on the birth certificate, but save yourself the grief of telling anyone ahead of time.

It's one of the first questions aside from do you know what you're having, that people will ask you. They will look all innocently at you and ask if you have thought of baby names yet. I'm warning you right now, even if you have, don't tell them!

If you do, I guarantee you that you will get so many unsolicited opinions and fuchi faces that you might think you accidentally passed gas. It doesn't matter how great the names you have in mind are, I guarantee that the person asking won't like them. Even if they say they like it something in the way they are looking at you will betray the fact that they think you are insane and should not be allowed to name your own child.

The truth is, they want to name your baby for you. Oh sure, they won't be there to help you change diapers in the middle of the night, but they want to have bragging rights and be able to tell everyone, "You know that baby is named Sofia with an F because I suggested it, right?"

Oh and the name suggestions you will get will be ridiculous and have nothing to do with you or your baby. My mother suggested that if I have a boy, I name him Fermin and if I had a girl, I name her Chlobee (she meant Chloe, but didn't know how to pronounce it and though Chlobee would be just as nice). Really?! I mean no offense to anyone named Fermin or Chlobee, but come on!

If you are wise and I caught you in time, you will listen to me and not tell people what you are naming your baby. Believe me, it will save you sooooo much grief in the long run!
