The New Year is here and so much has happened that we just have to predict popular baby names for 2013! One of the big things we're fascinated by from the past year are all the trends that will play a big part in baby naming this year. After all every name has an origin, and many times new moms and dads are influenced by what was the popular the year they conceived. So much goes into a name whether it's influenced by a popular celebrity, fad, event, or even a family member.
This past year, 2012, definitely had some crazy and fascinating trends that we wouldn't be surprised if we ring in 2013 with lots of newborns with the same names! Sandy: Who can forget Hurricane Sandy which crippled the Northeast in late October? Many are still recovering from the devastating storm, but with its severe impact, it wouldn't be surprising if there are many 'Sandra' babies born this year.
Athena: As if the hurricane wasn't bad enough, the Northeast was slammed by Nor'easter Athena days after Sandy. With all these natural disasters there was plenty of alone time for couples, so don't be surprised if Athena is another big name this year.
Barack: This year's election was huge because President Barack Obama was re-elected. There was even a circumstance where a woman named her newborn twins after the president and his election opponent, Mitt Romney!
Julian: The inspirational Texas Mayor, Julian Castro was the keynote speaker at the DNC and has everyone predicting that he could be the first Latino to run for president. We wouldn't be surprised if many Latinas name their son's after this successful and inspirational leader.
Ulises: Who could forget the buzz around Shakira's not so secret pregnancy? Once she confirmed that she was expecting a baby boy, the rumor mill began spewing out names the Colombian singer was going to name him. Although, unconfirmed, Ulises seemed to be the one most spoken about and we wouldn't be surprised if her fans name their baby boys the same.
William: The name William Levy was on everyone's lips this past year as he competed on Dancing with the Stars and won the hearts of American women and Latinas everywhere. We're sure there are some crazy Levy fans that will be influenced to name their sons after him.
Demi: Former Disney star, Demi Lovato made the ultimate comeback this year after going through her very publicized personal issues. From releasing a new album and becoming an X Factor judge, we have to say this young woman shows a lot of courage and strength. Any little girl would be lucky to be named after Demi.
Ryan: Who wouldn't want to name their son after famed Olympian swimmer Ryan Lochte? The half Cuban swimmer earned lots of media attention after showing off his mean swimming strokes in the London Olympics and made several TV show appearances. Maybe a future swimming Olympian will be in the works and Ryan is the perfect name for him.
Sienna: Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima gave birth to her second baby, Sienna, and the name became one of the top trendy baby names this past year. How adorable would it be if your little superstar shared a name with the famous Angel's daughter?!
Anastasia: We're sure Fifty Shades of Grey fans are going to be inspired to name their daughters Anastasia. The protagonist was the envy of many ladies…but considering the premise, we'd keep it PG when explaining to your daughter the meaning of her name.
