Desperate to be parents, some are resorting to Craigslist (VIDEO)

Even though I don't know anybody close to me who's gone through the adoption process, I do know it can be complicated and long. For some couples desperate to become parents, that's too much to bear and so they've turned to the internet to help streamline the process. And by internet, I mean Craigslist–the online marketplace where you can find anything your little heart desires, from gently used baby toys to your next job. Can you believe it?

Truth is that even though I can totally understand these people's frustration, I think it's pretty crazy to try to adopt a child using Craigslist.

In fact, someone who knows I've been looking for a nanny for months, recently suggested I look on Craigslist, as this was how she had found the woman who cares for her children. I truly thought that was the craziest idea since I could not imagine how I would be able to trust a stranger off the street with my kids' lives–especially given the Yoselyn Ortega case.

But apparently, for many people who want to adopt, Craigslist is a great choice. According to a story by ABC News, several couples have being able to adopt successfully using the online marketplace. The story, which you can see in the video below, made me cry. But the reporter also showed that parents who decide to go this route must be very careful, as there are many impostors and swindlers looking to take advantage of vulnerable people.

On the other hand, I'm happy to hear some have been able to find the family they were looking for and have given a chance to a child who, otherwise, could've spent years waiting for someone to adopt him.
