Nestle recall: Nesquik chocolate powder may contain salmonella!

This may be the scariest and saddest recall yet! Nesquik is recalling more than 200,000 canisters of the powdered chocolatey drink because they fear they are contaminated with salmonella. The questionable products were sold in October and varied in sizes from 40.7 ounces, 21.8 ounces, and 10.9 ounces.

Parent company Nestle claims that their ingredient supplier, Omaha Inc., is to blame. Apparently, the supplier used contaminated calcium carbonate during the packaging process. If you think that you have a tainted container of Nesquik at home, continue reading to find out what actions you can take.

This is scary stuff! So many moms buy this powdered chocolate drink for their kids, so to know that there's a chance to get sick from it is unsettling. I remember my mom always kept it in the house because it was the only way she could get my sister to drink milk. I'm sure there are other moms out there who are using the same strategy so this is just horrible news.

The upside of this story is that Nestle claims that there have been no reported illnesses due to consumption of the powdered chocolate. In case you think you own a contaminated container, the ones being recalled have a picture of the Disney movie, Wreck-It Ralph on the side of the container and the words "Be a Hero" across the bottom.

Nestle is allowing consumers to return their tainted containers to the stores they were purchased from for a refund, or they urge consumers to contact them at (800) 628-7679. __Remember, double check your pantries for the contaminated powdered drink and look out for the expiration date October 2014!

It's good to see that Nestle took action rather quickly because there could have easily been many sick kids across the nation for an error like this. For now I'd suggest moms find an alternative powdered drink to give them!
