What kind of grandparents put their grandson in the oven?

A dad goes away for the first time after his baby is born leaving her in his parents' (the baby's grandparents') care. Apparently, he's a nervous wreck, and in an attempt to be funny and help him lighten up a bit, his parents send him the photo you see here. Judging from the comments left on the story posted about the photo by MSN, there's a lot of angry people out there who didn't get it was just a joke. I can totally see how it could be a little insensitive–considering some sick animals have actually killed children by putting them in the oven–but we're talking about an innocent joke between grandparents and their adult son, people!

It's not known how the son reacted, but the fact that he uploaded the photo to the online image hosting service Imgur using the following description: "My first time leaving her, and Dad decided this is the picture to send.." makes it look like he thought it was funny too.

I don't know how I would've reacted if my parents sent me a photo like that, particularly if they did it the first time I went somewhere without my baby. I'll never forget the first time I left my daughter home and under the care of my suegra. For reasons that are impossible to explain, I was worried that something would happen and my MIL–mother of four and grandmother of seven–didn't know what to do! How crazy is that? The only way to explain my irrational behavior is to say that it has happened to many first-time moms I know…

Although I was only gone for a couple of hours, I was worried sick the whole time I was away from my tiny baby and I must have called my suegra at least three times to make sure everything was okay. Looking back, I'm sure my mother-in-law thought I was a complete loser. Then again, with the amount of experience she has, she probably just thought I was completely unexperienced. I wonder what I would've done if she had sent me a photo like the one on this post…
