"Let's get a king size bed. I can't take this anymore," is what I told my husband last night at some ungodly time when our 6-year-old daughter decided to finish her night in our bed. You see, earlier in the night, our 3-year-old son had had the same idea and so he was already in our bed–a queen size that no longer seems to comfortably accommodate us all.
I've no idea what's been going on, but for at least the past three weeks, both our children have been unable to sleep in their own beds the entire night. Although some nights they take turns showing up in our room in the middle of the night, more often than not, it's the both of them. And I truly can't take it anymore.
The weirdest thing is that they never really slept in our bed when they were babies. We don't subscribe to co-sleeping and, either way, they never really cared for our bed. Both of them slept on a cradle next to my side of the bed for the first four months of their lives when we moved them to their crib in their own room. And they actually seemed to love it there because even when I would bring either one to our bed when they were sick, they eventually asked to be taken back to their own room.

That's why I'm at a loss as to what's causing them to go to our room in the middle of the night. Neither one of them has given me a good enough explanation as to what's going other than the occasional nightmare or, in our son's case, the need to pee, which I can't ignore now that he's fully potty trained.
In any event, I don't know what to do to make them stop, but something has to give because I can't have another bad night–especially now that I'm sick and I really, truly need to rest.
So, do any of you have any advice for me? And pretty please don't tell me to take advantage of this time because one day I'll be the one begging them to come sleep with me and they'll be the ones sending me to hell. I love sleeping almost as much as I love my kids, so I seriously doubt I'll ever beg them to come sleep with me… unless we actually do end up getting that king size bed!
