I was trying not to cry as I read the horrific details of how a Wisconsin father locked his four kids inside their rooms and set his house on fire so he could collect life insurance and get a "fresh start," but I failed. I simply can't comprehend what kind of monster would do something so barbaric to his own family. Armin Wand and his younger brother Jeremy Wand have been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, attempted murder and arson in the fire that killed three of Armin Wand's sons, almost killed his only daughter, and badly injured his pregnant wife last Friday.
As if all that weren't enough, the criminal complaint filed yesterday in a Wisconsin court, alleged that Armin Wand actually tried to kill both his daughter and his wife a second time once he realized they had survived.

I don't even think an animal could act with so much cruelty, especially considering that Sharon Wand, who remains in critical condition at a local hospital, was 17-weeks pregnant. Sadly, the unborn child died because of her injuries, according to her in-laws, as reported by the Wisconsin State Journal.
Meanwhile, 2-year-old Jessica, who was rescued by her mom, was able to survive the fire without any serious injuries. Her three older brothers ages 7, 5, and 3 didn't share the same luck. Autopsy reports show they all died of smoke inhalation.
I can't even begin to imagine what Sharon Wand will have to face once she's out of the hospital. I mean, how do you live with the knwoledge that your own husband and father of your four children tried to kill you and your family by allegedly paying your brother-in-law $300 to help set your home on fire?

Hopefully, little Jessica will be able to erase the terrifying memories she must have of this tragedy. Luckily, she's young enough to not really remember this later on in her life, but I imagine that at some point her mother will have to talk to her about the fateful day her family disintegrated in an instant.
