Few things in life are greater than the bond between a dog and its owner. Eleven-year-old Canada resident, Cole Hein, knows this firsthand. In fact, the young boy is going to extra lengths to make the final days of his 14-year-old Jack Russell terrier's life very special.
Hein, who suffers from an undiagnosed medical condition that causes him to stop breathing, was given Bingo in 2005 by the National Service Dogs organization. Since then, the two have been inseparable and Bingo, who was trained to bark and alert others if Hein ever stopped breathing, has saved the young boy's life on several occasions.
Now that the canine is older and suffering from a cognitive disorder, Hein is determined to pay his beloved friend back for her help, even setting up a bucket list–which he calls a "lick it list"– of activities for him and Bingo to enjoy in her final days. Awww!
Some of the things on Hein's "lick-it list?" "I want to take her on one last public outing to Ruckers [recreation center]," he explains. "I want to walk her around the block twice. And I want to get her treats from around the world." To achieve that last goal, Hein and his family have set up a Facebook page to ask people from around the world to send treats (not financial donations) to a P.O. box in their name.

Doesn't that just make your heart melt? What an incredibly sweet gesture from Hein and his family. I can definitely sympathize with them! When my own dog got scarily sick in September and was too weak to walk (he has since recovered and I pray he stays that way for a long time), I stayed up with him every night for a week, sitting in the living room, bringing him water and carrying him outside to go to the bathroom when necessary–and it was totally worth it!

I hope Hein gets to complete his "lick-it-list" for Bingo and that the two enjoy spending time together for as much as time as they have left.
