A few months ago, I wrote a post in which I said I didn't think it was a big deal to let children have a taste of alcohol. I've let my almost 6-year-old stick her finger in my glass of wine so she could taste it. (She hated it, by the way). And yet, it would NEVER ever occur to me to serve her or her 3-year-old brother their own alcohol in their sippy cups.
Well, a mom in Phoenix, Arizona didn't think it was a big deal and when her 2-year-old son "kept reaching" for the pitcher of beer she'd order at a pizza joint where they were having dinner earlier this week, she opened up his sippy cup and poured him some beer of his own!

Valerie Marie Topete, 36, was arrested and charged with child abuse after police were called to the restaurant by a witness who said the child drank from the cup and, at one point, was left alone at the table with alcohol in the cup, according to Phoenix police.
Topete told police that she was using "reverse psychology" because her son kept on reaching for the pitcher so she figured that giving him a "splash of beer" in his apple juice would make him realize he wouldn't like the taste of it. Police admitted they found foam inside the sippy cup which smelled like alcohol.

The boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution and is now in his father's custody. Sadly, the dad–and the couple's two other children–was also at the restaurant during the incident, which makes you wonder why he didn't do anything to stop the madness.
