Why are some parents so ridiculous? Get this, a couple in Los Angeles is thinking about filing a lawsuit against their school district because their daughter lost the valedictorian spot by having a GPA that was only .05 points lower than the top student. In other words, being a salutatorian–or getting second place–wasn't good enough for Elisha Marquez's parents, even though the 18-year-old is headed to Stanford in the fall and has already won an engineering internship at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

I'd be so freaking orgullosa of my daughter that I'd be bursting at the seams with pride. The last thing on my mind would be thinking about suing the school district because I believe their system is flawed. Who cares?
Well, apparently, Elisha's parents. Carol, her mom, says that being the salutatorian instead of the valedictorian means that all of her daughter's "sleepless nights" were "for nothing." While her dad, Nelson, says: "You don't want your kid to be a loser. That's what they're basically saying. Be a loser."
Really? So being accepted to an Ivy League school and earning a bunch of scholarships is not reward enough? Who the heck cares about some label given at a high school graduation? It's not like not being chosen valedictorian is going to make Stanford take back their acceptance.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how Marquez family would even have a case. To me, they're giving way too much importance to something that, in the end, should not define Elisha nor her future success. Extreme parenting at its best!
