Did you know that Mother's Day is not always celebrated the second Sunday in May? I mean, it is in the United States and many other countries around the world, but in some Latin American countries Mother's Day is celebrated on a completely different day.
Thanks to Facebook and my Spaniard friends, I just found out that in Spain, Mother's Day is celebrated the first Sunday in May. So lots of mothers on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean already celebrated their day. ¡Felicidades! Hope you had happy one!
If you're Mexican, Guatemalan or Salvadoran, for example, you'll be celebrating Mother's Day on Thursday, May 10because that's the day these three countries celebrate Mother's Day regardless of what day of the week it falls on.
Here is when Mother's Day is celebrated in other countries:
Paraguay: May 15 (also Día de la Patria)
Bolivia: May 27
Nicaragua: May 30
Dominican Republic: Last Sunday of May
Costa Rica: August 15 (also the Assumption of Mary)
Argentina: Third Sunday of October
Panama: December 8 (also the Feast of the Immaculate Conception)
So if you're from any of these countries, but live in this country, does that mean you get to celebrate Mother's Day twice? If so, that's pretty sweet! I totally would if that were my case, but in Peru Mother's Day is also the second Sunday in May.

In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter on what day we celebrate Mother's Day because, like my father used to say, every single day should be Mother's Day.
